Farmers Union Meets In Polk Monday Night

Elton Berck Nebraska Farmers Union president spoke at Polk County quarterly meeting in Polk Community Hall. He urged cooperation among farm groups and highlighted the new group insurance plan. M G Lindburg showed Hawaii trip slides. County president Martin Jones presided and was chosen county delegate to November’s state convention in Norfolk. Lunches served by Mrs Park er Aker and Mrs M G Lindburg. The group signed a letter to seriously ill Wilbur Crown of Central City.

Former Garden Club Guests Dine At Polk Chapter Meeting

Polk Garden Club welcomed sixteen members along with four former members and two visitors for a program led by Sophia Klingsporn Garnet Miller and Mildred Baker at Janice Saylor's home. Mildred Baker presented slides of Texas flowers and landscapes. Bean Day committee reports were given and a luncheon followed hosted by Janice Saylor with assistance from Verna Fredrickson.

Birthday greetings at Cindy Larson home

Guests joined Cindy Larson for a birthday celebration on Sunday. Attendees included Mrs Sharon Larson and girls, Mr and Mrs Larry Green of Lincoln, Mr and Mrs Arthur Pinneo, Mr and Mrs Byron Covey of York, and Mrs Dale Edwards of Hastings.

First Graders Get New Carpet and Class Updates

The first graders return to school to a new classroom carpet and a summer sink. Eight girls and five boys enjoy a post noon rest period and quieter exercises. Reading progress spans pre primers and early readers with caterpillar observations and birthday notes. Eighth graders study Nebraska centennial history while seventh graders explore ancient eastern hemisphere topics. Class officers are Dan Graves president and others.

Home Society Adorns Lincoln Visit With Charity Project

Home Society met with Ella Cramer on September 20. Twelve members attended as President Myrtle Johnson led the meeting. The group decided to buy material and sew diapers for the Nebraska Children's Home. Bingo provided social hour entertainment. Evelyn Shenk won a hostess gift. A pot-luck lunch followed. Mrs Leslie Adelson spent Wednesday and Thursday in Lincoln visiting Mrs Sharon Larson and her daughters.

Junior Class officers include Donnette Jones as president and Syd Widga as secretary. Sophomores name Tonya Anderson as president and Mark Wood as vice president. Freshmen list Gail Widga as president and Ann Otte as secretary treasurer. Eighth Grade lists Kent Anderson as president and Mary Jo Widga as vice president. Seventh Grade names Phyllis Ostberg as president with Cheryl Samuelson as secretary. Nancy Kisler and Christine Funk are newspaper editors. Bev Willits and Loren Wilshusen edit the annual. Peg Sealey is Pep Club president. Varsity cheerleaders are Bev Willits, Connie LaVelle, Kay Nielsen and Pat Sealey. B-team are Marcia Myers, Tonya Anderson, Donnette Jones, Sue Hoffman with Pat Ostberg as alternate.
