Home Society Meets for October Seniors Bingo
All members gathered at Mrs Minnie Meir’s home for a busy business meeting. Plans were set to sponsor the senior citizens bingo in October with names drawn for Christmas. Mrs M O Johnson received the hostess gift. Guests enjoyed visiting and a luncheon. Next meeting to be hosted by Mrs Widga in October.

Polk County Historical Society Elected Officers Banquet
The Polk County Historical Society held its 15th annual banquet at Stromsburg Covenant Church on Thursday September 18. Nina Burke was re elected as president with Mildred Flodman continuing as president and Doris Grossnicklaus as secretary and news reporter. New officers include Philip Nyberg treasurer Ella Anderson on the board with Bernie Gissler Dwight Newcomer and Marjorie Berck. Allegra Johnson named museum chairman with assistants to be chosen. Enoch Ekstrand and Nina Burke named tour chairmen Violet Nyberg and Esther Fellows memorial chairs. Judy Lonowski sang and Mildred Flodman showed society tours slides. Bernie Gissler announced reception of Polk County Biographical Books. The Bicentennial program proposal titled A Historical Scenic and Musical Tour Through the USA was presented with Colonial Days planned October 16 at City Hall Osceola.

The Polk Garden Club met at Marie Henderson’s home on Tuesday afternoon September 16. Fourteen members answered roll call by sharing their favorite teachers. Doris Stewart and Bertha Brazda led the program on the vegetable garden industry and its origins. Marie and Marjorie served a salad lunch, with Dorothy Adelson receiving the hostess gift.

New Polk Pastor Accepts Call to Polk and Benedict Churches
Rev. Clifford Lindgren has accepted a call from Trinity Lutheran Church of Polk and Zion Lutheran Church of Benedict. He and his family moved to Benedict on August 25 after ordination in 1953. He grew up in Lyons Nebraska and studied at Lutheran colleges in Wahoo and Lindsborg and attended institutes in Minnesota and Rock Island. The couple has five children including Faith, James, Mark, David and Grace.

Helga Elizabeth Johnson Bush born December 7 1887 in Sweden came to the United States in 1888. She married Walter Bush July 3 1909 at York Nebraska and had three children Bernice Fitch Vergil Bush and Willard Bush. Services were held September 22 at Anderson Funeral Chapel Stromsburg with interment in Polk Cemetery.
