Sunday Fire Destroys Large Hordville Home

The Dennis Riekenberg family lost a new two story home and burnished items when a fire destroyed their house in Hordville Sunday morning during church services. Polk Clarks and Central City fire departments aided the Hordville crew as northwest winds hindered efforts. The garage where the pickup was kept is suspected as the start, with some belongings salvaged from the basement.

Grief and Dying Workshop Opens in Osceola

A Grief and Dying Workshop sponsored by Polk County Mental Health Association and run by Pioneer Mental Health staff offers three sessions. The first session is October 9 1977 at 7 00 p m at the Mental Health Clinic Methodist Church Osceola with a $10 registration fee. Call the clinic at 747 6791 for more information.

Legion Auxiliary Holds Regular Meeting At Post 160

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 160 met on Sept 12 at 8 p.m. President Janice Saylor led a roll call of 32 members plus a guest and one new member Janet Green. Attendance at bingo and card parties was reported. plans included serving lunch at bingo events and a library lunch sponsored by Leen Sponsoring.

Volleyball Girls Win Twice During Week

Polk varsity volleyball teams extend victories with two wins at Genoa and St Ed. Leading scorers include Lesley Jones 10, Darla Sterns 11, Monica Werner 7, and Michel Sandell 5 in the Genoa match. In the St Ed win Sterns and Werner pace the squad with seven and nine points respectively.

A benefit open house is scheduled for Wednesday evening September 21 from 7 to 9 at Hardville High School to support the Denny Riekenberg family. Refreshments will be served.

Miss Cindy Kusler and Steve Palensky of Commerce City Colorado married September 17 at Arborville Congregational Church south of Polk. Rev. John McCurdy presided. Crescendos Variety Show Slated At High School Gym

Less than two weeks remain until the Crescendos sponsored variety show at the high school gym on Sunday October 2 at 2 30. Polk's talents will perform singing juggling tumbling guitar timkling bell ringing band playing piano art exhibiting candy selling and toe tapping. Admission is free and donations to the library fund are welcome for a family afternoon of fun.

Library Lines Funds Grow for Riekenberg Aid and Library Projects

Donations from Don Hudson Willard Adelson and anonymous donors totaled about 58 dollars for library support. The Legion thanks supporters of a Benefit Bingo that raised about 48 dollars and plans at least two more sessions. A thrift shop will open in the new library and bedding and linens are being collected for the Riekenberg family in Hfordville. Donations can be brought Thursday Sept 22 1 30 to 3 00 p m. A library work day for cleaning and painting the entry is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Beaver Aerials Dominate Cubs in 42-14 Victory

St. Edward Beavers routed Polk High 42-14 as quarterback Russell Kimovsky connected on 9 of 13 passes to Brad Williams for three TDs. John Kimiecik sprinted 92 yards for a Beaver rushing TD while Polk managed 127 rushing yards to 146 for St. Ed. The Cubs led 6-0 early but were undone by the Beavers aerial game as three TD passes and two long drives sealed the win.
