Cubs roll past Shelby 26 to 0 in Friday football clash

Polk’s Cubs dominated Shelby last Friday night with 346 rushing yards led by Don Sealey 101 and Dick Sealey 99. Dan Sealey 34 yard TD, Steve Saylor 20 yard TD, Dick Sealey 50 yard TD, plus a blocked punt return for a score. Polk to play Genoa next. 32 players on squad. Also 42 passing yards, Brockevelt 9 tackles, Heiden blocks punt TD. Marriage licenses listed for local couples and a social calendar note follows.

Polk School Enrollment Figures Announced for Year

Polk schools report 105 students in high school this year with 51 boys and 54 girls. Grade school counts 149 and junior high 41, totaling 295. Last year high school had 44 boys. Band Day commitments include University of Nebraska on Oct 2 and Kearney on Oct 16.

Polk County Crows Weather Summary and Farm Report

Moisture provides 1.50 to 3.10 inches for the week ending Saturday. Surface and subsoil moisture adequate. Irrigated crops excel. other crops fair to good. Fourth alfalfa cut 30 percent. corn 5 percent in dough, 80 percent dented, rest mature. Fall seeding five percent. winter grains five percent legumes 95 percent. Pasture average. main farm work minimal due to wet weather. Early frost feared as corn and sorghum not mature. Fat cattle marketed. prices down over one dollar per cwt. Feeder cattle demand continues.

Polk County ASC community committees elected in 1965

The Polk County ASC announced the 1965 election results for community committeemen. Elections were held Sept. 14 with ballots tabulated publicly. Names of elected members from Canada, Clear Creek, Island, Osceola, Platte, Pleasant Home, Stromsburg, Valley precincts listed, along with officers and delegates. The county convention in Osceola Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. will elect the ASC county committee. ASC committees oversee programs such as agricultural conservation, feed grain and wheat programs, wool, acreage allotments, marketing quotas, loans, and storage facility loans, enabling farmers to earn thousands yearly.

Polk County WCTU Convention in Osceola and Home Society meets

The Polk County WCTU held its annual convention Thursday at Osceola Methodist Church with Mrs P W Aker presiding. Rev Robert Turner gave devotions and Miss Edith Malm led a memorial service as local unions and Osceola Stromsburg and Polk chapters reported. The Home Society met Sept 15 at Mrs Emory Cramer’s with 10 members and 2 guests, passing a get well card and planning October plans.
