Polk High Cubs overcome a 13-0 deficit to beat Stromsburg 28-19 as Kenny Bills scores three touchdowns. Mick Hoffman and Bills connect for a late first half score, Bills adds two point conversion, Kent Anderson hurt, final stands Polk 28 Stromsburg 19.
Mr and Mrs Sam Cook of Clarks Nebraska celebrate sixty years of marriage with an open house at the VFW Hall in Clarks on Sunday September 20 from 2 to 5 PM. Friends and relatives are invited. The family requests no gifts.
Shirley Kahler of Fairmont has been named one of 10,000 Outstanding Young Women of America. A letter to her mother-in-law says she is among a select group nationwide for civic and professional accomplishments and is being considered for her state's Outstanding Young Woman of the Year award.
The county court lists fines for numerous drivers across several towns. Names include Richard A. Olsen Ted Shipps Gerald B Eastburn Danny A Abel Vernon Peterson Ricky A Jones James D Carlson Edwin D Linderman Ronald Lee Collins Helen Datus Adeline Stachur Clarence W Chapman Phillip J Seefus and Richard A Aut. Violations range from day time speeding to no operator license and overdue inspection stickers.
Mrs. Viola Ziegelbein was kept for observation in York hospital from Wednesday to Saturday. Mrs. Alvena Lind underwent surgery Tuesday after admission to Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island on Monday. Mrs. Glen Babcock returned home from Lincoln General hospital on Saturday. Mrs. Wilmer Bodine entered Aurora Hospital Saturday morning after falling ill early that day. Kent Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson, returned home Sunday from a hospital in Osceola where he was confined since Friday night after breaking his ankle while playing football at Stromsburg in the Polk versus Stromsburg game.
The Cubs gained 389 yards to Stromsburg s 280 and earned 12 first downs to Stromsburg s eight. They completed 4 of 9 passes for 44 yards while Stromsburg was 4 of 17 for 133. Cubs were penalized 5 yards, Stromsburg 34. This Friday the Cubs host St Ed aiming for their second conference win.
Orlie Adelson a former Polk resident died in a Wichita Kansas hospital of a heart attack. Funeral services were at Swede Plain United Methodist Church Polk with Rev. Alvin Trucano officiating. Burial followed in Swede Plain Cemetery. He was born December 8 1904 at Polk and attended the University of Nebraska. He worked in banking in several cities including Clarks Augusta and Wichita. He was an official at Southwest National Bank Wichita at his death. Survivors include his widow three sons a sister a brother and four grandchildren. Interment was at Swede Plain Cemetery.
JoAnn Stevens of the Route 66 Riders Saddle Club competed for NHCA Queen at the State Jamboree in Lincoln. Five finalists named include Shelly Tubbs, Betty Gergen, Dana Jones, and Joleen Smith. Stevens won the barrel race trophy and will attend the February 1971 meeting where the Queen and Princess are chosen.
The Swede Plain MYF met in the church basement Sunday evening September 13. Officers elected include Randy Widga president Leani Stohl vice president Janice Widga secretary and Max Clymer treasurer with Mrs Lyle Widga and Mrs Verland Widga as sponsors. Lunch was served by Mrs Walter Stohl.
Polk County committee members to raise funds for Camp Easter Seal at Agnew Nebraska include Mrs Don Hanquist Mrs Rolland Stromberg Mrs Ed Dobberstein and Mrs Ralph Redman. Mr and Mrs A A Shockey and Harold Bittinger were Sunday dinner guests of Fred and Fredia Shockey.

A Polk County Nebraska picnic will be held in the Shelter House at Island Grove Park in Greeley Colorado on September 20, 1970. Attendees should bring a basket lunch and join at 12 30 p.m. Coffee and ice tea will be provided.
Murray Lynn Smith aged 18 of Shelby wed Helen Mae Hohndorn 18 of Shelby. Joey L. Bennett 24 of Lincoln married Yvonne Marie Bernt 23 of Lincoln at Shelby. Gregory L. Wilhelms 23 of Stroms burg married Linda Kay Peterson 21 of Shelby. J. Thomas Ingalls 21 of Shelby wed Cynthia Sue Hiemer 18 of Shelby.
