Polk High School volleyball opened the 1976 season with a varsity loss at Palmer 15-7 15-13. Polk led 18-11 in the second set before errors swung the match Palmer’s way. Reserves fell to Palmer 15-13 15-5 while freshmen won 15-4 15-12 15-5.
Mr and Mrs Michael Haapala of Dassel Minnesota announce the birth of a son, Benjamin Michael, on September 1 weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Reuben Ehn. Mr and Mrs John McClure of Augusta Kansas announce a son born August 14 weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces named Nicholas Wade. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Charles Lytle of Augusta and great grandparents Mr and Mrs Ollie Johnson.

Mrs Walter Stohl is a patient in York hospital. Mr Russell Fjell is a patient in Clarkson hospital. Mr Ollie Johnson returned home Wednesday from the Clarkson hospital in Omaha.
The Polk Vikings blocked a punt for a third quarter score and added a late TD to defeat Stromsburg Cubs 12 to 0. Rick Runyan scored from the five after the punt block, with Lee Peterson adding the second TD as the Vikings controlled play late. Tom Carlstrom left the field injured and limited Cubs’ hope as their drives stalled near the Viking goal.
