Shower honors Miss Linda Johnson at Polk Church event

Linda Johnson was honored at a miscellaneous shower in Polk Methodist Church Parlor on Saturday evening September 4. Guests enjoyed bridal games, gifts were opened, and a white umbrella centerpiece with bittersweet ribbon and candies matched the table decor. About 20 guests attended with two out of town grandmothers as hostsesses helped serve lunch and coffee.

Florence Bayer New President of LCW at Trinity Lutheran

The Lutheran Church Women LCW met at Trinity Lutheran Church parlors on Wednesday Sept 1 at 7 30 pm. Officers elected: Florence Bayer president Bertha Brazda secretary Donna Werner treasurer. Committees named Outreach and Fellowship Myr le Werner Faith and Life Della Hoffman Christian Action Lauretta Neuhaus. Mrs Bilisten of the Women s Reformitory at York spoke on her work. A girls trio Arlyce Lind Dee Willits Lynda Myers sang two numbers. Hostesses Corinne Adelson Bertha Brazda served dessert.

Polk County Grons Weather and Farm Conditions

Moisture supplies for the week end ing Saturday Sept 4 show 65.80 inches surface and subsoil moisture short before weekend rains. Irrigated crops excellent soybeans good others fair. Third cutting alfalfa 90 percent completed. Corn 40 percent dough 60 percent dented. Legumes 90 percent fall seeded. Pasture and range feed average. Main farm work includes prep for fall sowing small grain alfalfa and prairie hay work sowing legumes and grasses. Many dryland corn and sorghum fields show moisture stress. Livestock pastures short of good grass due to moisture. Mr and Mrs Lyle Widga visited Minneapolis St Cloud and Waterloo Iowa then Rockford Illinois and Lincoln Nebraska for the State Fair.

Community money drive funds baseball uniforms for summer program

A local fund raiser auctions tickets at multiple businesses to win a free TV or automatic rifle, supporting recreation program uniforms for next summer. Immanuel Lutheran hosts a fall mission festival on Sept 12 with Rev. Gerald Freudenburg as speaker. Linda Johnson honored at a bridal shower. IFYE delegate Duck Yong Kang from Korea visits Polk County Sept 4–25, hosted by Shelby Fertilizer with local sponsors.
