Herdville Band Organizes Parent Club and Shows Growth
Herdville parents form a Band Parents Club to boost instrumental education at Herdville School. The Herdville music department led by Miss Marilyn Sorensen reports 37 instrumental students and plans a PTA performance. A music company rep will display instruments Tuesday. The band debuted as a marching unit at the Hardville-Hampton football game and will march in Central City on Veterans Day November 11. Members include Jeanine Stranberg, Linda Andreasen, Carolyn Kortum, and others. They will perform for the upcoming PTA meeting. Grades 4 through 8 at Polk Grade School expect a roller skating party Friday night November 5 at Aurora Skating Rink with buses at 6:30 and return around 10:00.

Elks Foundation grants aid for cerebral palsy rehab
The Elks National Foundation will allocate 6500 in grants to medical staff for cerebral palsy rehabilitation. Douglas Stevens of Polk attends Baylor University on a foundation grant and plans to work in a children's hospital as a therapist after graduation from Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Polk native is the son of Earl and Mrs. Stevens. A Christian High School musical program at Central City showcased trumpet solos choir and vocal performances followed by church lunch.
