Mrs Lackey Hosts Polk Garden Club Meeting

Mrs Lackey hosts Polk Garden Club at her home. Florence Hoffman and Irene Carlson presented a program and demonstration on winter bouquets. Twelve members and three visitors attended Tuesday afternoon October 16. Social hour refreshments were served by Mrs Lackey and Mrs Nell Peterson.

The Polk High Marching Band directed by Mr Mc Intosh thrilled crowds with half time shows during daily classes and at home games. Their standout exhibition mirrored music history from the last century and a half and included a Grand Island trip to see The Music Man.

Baptist Mission Circle Holds October 11 Meeting

The Baptist Mission Circle met on October 11 for its regular session. Mrs. Wallace Sandell led devotions and Mrs. Lloyd Lind taught on Conquest through faith on wings of faith. Two special numbers were presented by the Baptist Young Women's Sextet and a high school freshman girls quartet. Mrs. Don Hanquist presided over the business portion. Guests were welcomed by Mrs. Enoch Peterson and lunch was provided by Mrs. Ed Reckner, Mrs. Gordon Fossberg, and Mrs. Dean Lindburg.

Home Society Meets With Mrs. Ella Rudy

The North Polk Home Society gathered at Mrs. Ella Rudy’s newly modeled Strand home on a rainy day. They approved sending five dollars to the Home for Thanksgiving, shared tour reports to Omaha and the Windjammer, and noted a social Bunco hour with high and low scores. Four visitors attended, including Mrs. Kenneth Rudy and her Harvard daughter. A lunch followed. next meeting shifts to Mrs. Ernie Lott’s new south Polk home.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Convention Closes in Lincoln

The 11th biennial meeting of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Southern Nebraska District Mo Synod ended October 17 at the National Guard Armory in Lincoln with 792 delegates and guests registered. Rev. C T Spitz gave a keynote lecture on the theme Now is the Time, with local attendees Mrs Raymond Sagehorn and Mrs Gwynuel Johnson among those present.

Devaney to Speak at All-Sports Banquet Tonight

Bob Devaney will be the guest speaker at the all sports banquet moved to May 7 to accommodate his Nebraska football schedule. A 46 year old native of Saginaw Michigan he coached Wyoming to four Skyline titles 35 wins 10 losses and 5 ties. His insight and organizational skill have generated statewide interest.

Osceola Edges Polk 6 0 in Wet Weather Football Thriller

Osceola defeated Polk 6 to 0 in a rain soaked game marred by fumbles on both sides. Randy Studley scampered for the lone scoring play after Polk fumbled early in the second half as Osceola pressed from the Polk 22. The first half featured a long Polk drive that ended with an incomplete pass near the Osceola 9.

Trinity Lutheran Burns Mortgage at Day of Thanksgiving

Trinity Lutheran Church of Polk celebrated a Day of Special Thanksgiving on October 21 featuring a symbolic burning of the church mortgage led by Pastor B. A. Barnell Ray Werner and Dr. Alfred W. Young. A noon fellowship dinner followed with about one hundred attendees and an afternoon program recalling the congregation’s early history and milestones.
