Shelby farmer dies in hay sweep accident near Shelby
H. F. Kinnan, 65, a well known farmer living about six miles northeast of Shelby, died Monday afternoon when a heavy beam of a hay sweep apparently fell while he worked alone on his farm. His body was found by a son as horses returned at dusk. He left a widow, two sons, a daughter, four sisters, and a brother.

York Boy Wins National Championship in 4-H Stock Judging
The 4-H Club team that won the National Championship at Columbus Ohio includes Harry Silvey from York County. His journey began with a Jersey calf donated by Charles Hope who has given 26 Jersey bulls to Mother's Jewel's Home in six years. Last year Hope and C Edwin Johnson of Osceola district each donated a registered Jersey heifer to Harry Lily.

Dog Dragged Behind Car After Hit In Town
A dog ran into the street and was struck by a car driven by Dick Thesing. The animal’s front leg became caught on the steering gear and was dragged along the ground until town mechanic Butch Mills freed it. The dog then ran off seemingly uninjured.

The Hastings District of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society held its annual convention at the Polk Methodist church. About 140 guests attended a noon luncheon from 30 churches. Mrs Lawrence Sundberg of Polk was elected president for the coming year. The Standard Bearer Girls led an evening program and dinner for about 70 guests before adjournment to Hastings next year.

Morrill Passes at Scottsbluff Pioneer Landholder Dies
Charles A. Morrill, 69, of a prominent Nebraska family and longtime landholder, died in a Generalane hospital early Tuesday. He graduated with the first Stromsburg high school class and attended a recent reunion. Surviving are his widow Marcell a J. Morrill, two sons Ralph of Torrington Wyoming and Charles H. of Morrill, two brothers Arthur C. of Stromsburg and Edgar L. of Fort Collins Colorado, and a sister Minnie H. Morrill of Stromsburg.
