C R O P Drive Delivers Strong Thanksgiving Support

Community drive led by Rev. Iidick Anderson raised 408.60 with county totals exceeding 2060. Volunteers list includes Arthur Samuelson Hi Tewell Lloyd Ken Walter Nyberg Edwin Nyberg etc. Top contributions were 58 by Lloyd Lind and Walter Nyberg and 52.50 by Edwin Nyberg and Jerold Ruzicka. The drive aims to ease hunger and reflect Thanksgiving spirit.

Winners Named in Home Service Voting Contest

Voting for contestants at the Home Service close-out sale was brisk as the week ended. First prize went to Mrs. Virgil Eisler, followed by Mrs. Dave Pakdahl and Mrs. Hannah Hahn in the top ranks. Others with over one million votes received nylon hose prizes.

The Sunday Journal and Star named Gaylen Holmes of Polk to the first team of the All-State Class C. Holmes was the Golden Rod Conference’s sole player with this top honor. Honorable mention went to Waldo Peterson and John Lamb of the undefeated Clarks team.

First Blizzard Of Year Hits Polk And Surrounding Area

The Polk area endured a two night one day blizzard beginning Monday with five inches of wet snow. High winds created deep drifts blocking roads. by mid Wednesday streets cleared and traffic resumed. Schools closed Tuesday afternoon and again Wednesday for Thanksgiving break. No major damage reported. power outages brief.

Milford Johnson and Ray Sandberg Buy Two Farm Tracts

At an Osceola land auction Milford Johnson and Ray Sandberg were high bidders. Johnson secured 120 acres for 266 and Sandberg took 160 acres for 190. Elwyn Johnson currently lives on the second farm.

Country Womans Club Luncheon Presented by Members

The Country Woman's Club met Thursday for a one o clock luncheon at Mrs. Orlie Millers home with hostesses Mrs. Ben Peterson and Mrs. Raymond Sundberg. A three course meal followed a program of group singing and a reading of When Father Carves the Duck. Members approved Christmas boxes for sons in service. Twenty two members and a visitor attended.

Basketball Season Opens Tuesday at Bradshaw High

Bradshaw starts the home basketball season next Tuesday night December 2 against Polk. Coach Phillips relies on veterans Gaylen Holmes Kenny Werner Don Nygerg and Denny Cramer returning to form. Hordville Baptist Ladies Aid Reunion Tea Recalls 50 Years

Younger members hosted an informal tea for older members on Friday afternoon November 21 at 2 o clock in the church parlors. Guests wore costumes from a bygone era and charter members attended led by Nellie Peterson who served as a longtime president. A Swedish prayer, antique artifacts, a large family Bible, and a meal of muffins jell peach sauce spice cake and coffee completed the event.

Gail Anderson Nebraska Co op Council secretary spoke at the Stromsburg Hotel banquet. Polk County Farmers Co op Elevators and Pro duce Stations managers and directors attended with their wives. Orville Hennings presided. Rev Edick Anderson addressed road issues. Officers elected: Orville Hennings chair, Martin Jones vice chair, Ben Peterson secretary treasurer. About fifty guests enjoyed a steak dinner.
