Mr and Mrs Paul Stevens and Mrs Keene Huestle, Kim and Kirk were Monday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Lynn Benson of Kearney.
The column lauds Lincoln officials for prudent responses to air base budget cuts affecting many airmen and families. It contrasts Lincoln with other areas facing protests while highlighting community support and the author’s affection for Lincoln. The engagement is announced by Miss Judith Ann Morland’s parents Mr and Mrs Marshall Morland of Lancaster Kansas. She is a Midland College junior from Fremont majoring in elementary education and a Phi Omega member. Bruce Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Eldon R Johnson of Polk teaches at Westside Community School in Omaha and is a Midland College alumnus from 1964 in Kappa Alpha Lambda. The couple plans to marry December 27 1964 at St John Lutheran Church in Lancaster Kansas.
Twelve members met at Corner Cafe on Tuesday November 17 for the annual luncheon with Thanksgiving decor. At Mildred Bakers home the business meeting and program followed with fourteen members present. Slides of Texas winter gardens and a summer garden were shown. Members offered Thanksgiving poems or thanks for roll call. The next meeting will be in January.
Funeral services for George Larson 75 were held last Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Joseph Hu officiating and burial in Lindale Cemetery. Larson, born in Kirkman Indiana, lived on a Polk County farm southwest of Polk for about 40 years. Singers Robert Erickson Lennart Johnson. Organist Arlan Warneke. Pallbearers Donald and Clifton Larson Elmer Berger David Meline Neal Sandell and Enoch Peterson.
The Country Woman's Club met in the Hotel lobby on Thursday Nov 19 at 1 pm with twelve members present. They visited Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg presenting fruit and candy, then Osceola Good Samaritan Home with a program and gifts, before returning to Stromsburg for lunch.
Birth notices report Kevin Eugene Wagner born Nov 19 to Mr. and Mrs. William Wagner Osceola weighing 8 lbs 12 ozs. Kimberly Ann Rasp born Nov 22 to Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Rasp Gresham with 7 lbs 8 ozs. Laura Mae Sundberg born Nov 8 to Dr and Mrs Doyle Sundberg Sterling Colorado. John Judson Lampshire, 74 months, arrived Nov 8 to live with Wayne Lampshire Bogota Colombia. grandparents Gilbert Lampshire. Keene Hueftle hosts dinner in Eustis with M Hueftle. plans to return to Grants.
Twenty eight boys reported for basketball practice starting November 11. Nine are lettermen from last season's 15 3 team. Goldenrod tourney champions and co champions in the regular season, returning lettermen include Sherman Wilshusen Dennis Widga Bob Rahrs Gary Sagehorn Gary Stevens Larry Johnson Dennis Carlstrom Dennis Sealey Allan Neuhaus. New prospects include Vance Stahl Lynn Sundberg Donald Hanquist Wayne Heiden Allan Tenniges Dennis Stevens Norman Reckner Dennis Anderson Dick Sealey Steve Saylor Lennis Warnick Steve Flodman Don Tyler. Freshmen listed are Tom Stevens Joel Stevens Charles Shenk Ared L Heureux Ken Carlstrom and Loren Wilshusen.
The Polk High School Music Department presented a concert Monday evening November 23 before a large audience. Performers included the Boys Glee Club Girls Trio Boys Quartette and Mixed Chorus with soloists Delores Willits Arlyce Lind Linda Myers Dennis Stevens Dennis Sealey Dick Mundt and Sherman Wilshusen. Gary Johnson delivered a monologue. direction was by Hans Willadsen.
Eleven members and one guest gathered at Mrs Grant Johnson’s home on November 18. They hemmed 24 diapers for the Nebraska Children's Home, collected coffee labels and coupons, and voted to send $10 for Thanksgiving. Christmas meeting set with Mrs Ray Werner on December 16. Mrs Richard Johnson won the hostess gift. The group enjoyed Bunco and an all hostess lunch. Laymen's Meeting Draws Swede Plain Church Members. Members attended Hastings conference with over 700 at dinner. Dr E Stanley Jones spoke. Hastings Men's Chorus sang.
