Kindergarten Indians and Pilgrims Celebrate Thanksgiving Day

Grade school hosts a reenactment of the first Thanksgiving with Indians and Pilgrims. Students build a log cabin and village displays, share corn candy, popcorn, and a hunting dance. Activities include accounts of the Mayflower, corn, squash, meat, apples, and cornmeal foods plus a teepee and sand table village.

Home Society Meeting Allocates Gifts for Nebraska Children's Home

The Home Society met November 15 at Mrs. Grant Johnson's home with eleven members and two guests. They voted to send $10 to the Nebraska Children's Home for Christmas, hemmed diapers, sent Butternut coupons, and enjoyed a lunch after cards and entertainment. Mrs Sadie Clark won high and Mrs M O Johnson low. Mrs Johnson also won the host gift.

Indians First Thanksgiving Plan to Include Cornbread and Apple Juice

A historical note describes the first Thanksgiving and the foods the Indians contributed. The Pilgrims intend to serve cornbread baked by themselves and apple juice.

Sunrise Sunset Schedule Rule for Nebraska Cities

A regional rule defines sunrise and sunset times for any Nebraska point due north or south of Grand Island. For every 13 miles west of a designated city, add one minute. for every 13 miles east, subtract one minute.

ABC Club Meeting Demonstrates Shock Treatment

The ABC Club met at Mrs John Wechner’s home on November 13 with president Lawson Reckner leading. Ann Otte and Tom Morris demonstrated shock treatment and discussed asphyxiation and bleeding. lunch was served by Miss Wechner and Mrs Owen Bedient. The next meeting is scheduled for December 11 at Daniel Graves’ home.

State Farm Survey Opens Next Week

Nebraska farmers will participate in a State Farm survey conducted by the State and Federal Division of Agricultural Statistics in late November and early December. Enumerators and mail questionnaires cover livestock poultry eggs and crops with data summarized locally and sent to USDA for final analysis.
