Oscar Johnson 92 dies in Folk after long Polk residency

Oscar E. Johnson, 92, of Folk, died Tuesday morning in Aurora hospital. A lifelong Polk community resident, he is survived by his wife Sigrid, son Harlan and wife Margaret, two grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Polk County ARC helps handicapped with school grants

Polk County Association for Retarded Citizens will give fifty dollars to each town school in Polk County for handicapped children. The ARC met at the Osceola Methodist Church with Rev. Hopkins presiding. Honey Sunday in Polk County is set for November 21, with nationwide observance on November 14. Distribution will be through local churches. Rev. Truman Bachenberg spoke on regional activities and the group set future meetings for Stromsburg United Brethren Church on November 22.

Mrs Paul Strand Attends Red Cross Blood Program

Mrs Paul Strand attended the Omaha Regional Red Cross Blood Program conference at the Ramada Inn Omaha on Friday October 29. The American National Red Cross awarded Polk County Chapter a Gold Frame Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding cooperation with the Blood Program. Polk County donors reached 100 percent of quota for July 1 1975 to June 30 1976. Local donors volunteers recruiters and nurses were commended and Polk County was listed on the Heart to Heart Talk honor roll. Mrs Paul Strand as chairperson received the Gold Frame award.
