The Polk Garden Club met May 15 at Mrs James Brazda Sr home with nine members and one visitor. Mrs Don Lindholm led with The More We Get Together and Creed. Ollie Baker presented a Hawaii slides program. Lunch was served by Mrs Brazda and Mrs Orlie Miller.
Mr and Mrs Glen Brazda and children visited the Hoffmans. Fossbergs and Ottes shared lunch. Rodney Anderson and Ray Hallquist hosted visits. Hartmans stayed with Ostbergs. Dean McGinnis helped his grandmother Hennie Seymour celebrate a birthday. Roy Nelson dined with the Adelsons. Grace Bennett and Rosanna Wheaton with Jim Wilson visited Alfred home. Orlie Miller planned Colorado trip. Emma Horstman attended Alumni Banquet at Loup City and will stay through Memorial Day.
Mr and Mrs Roger Gustafson and Mr and Mrs Don Shoup hosted a reception at the Gustafson home in Hordville after commencement exercises Tuesday evening. Linda Gustafson and Robert Shoup were honored alongside Leigh Ann Gustafson an eighth grade graduate. About 60 relatives and friends attended. Roberta Truell of Oxnard California poured the coffee with other helpers serving cake and punch.
All band players are reminded of the first high school band practice on Monday June 4 at 7 30 P M. The message urges attendance and notes start time.
The summer kickoff features a 7:00 pm band under Norman McIntosh after a space shoot for children 8th graders and younger. Balloons with name and address will be released. postcards mailed back from farthest distance win prizes from $5 to $1. Participants receive a free 25 cent malt at Kahler's Coffee Shop. Plan to attend in Polk on Saturday June 9.
Mrs. Luther Rhoades of York visited daughter Laura and joined Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson in York. Mrs. H. G. Brauer traveled to Golden Colorado with daughter and son-in-law Leo Wurtz and family. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wall of Hampton also visited. All flew. Mrs. Hannah Hahn and Darwin visited her mother Mrs. Channa Erickson and Bernice at Pioneer Rest Home in Aurora Tuesday evening.
Around 150 relatives and friends gathered at the Methodist Church to honor Mr and Mrs Art Swedenburg of Clarks on their golden wedding anniversary. A buffet supper followed at the Swedenburg home and a wedding cake from niece Joyce Stromberg of Columbus. Attendants included relatives from York Rockford Los Angeles Columbus Auburn Lincoln Grand Island Omok Hash and others who called in with congratulations.
A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Strand on Sunday. Guests included Homer Batty, Esther Berggren of Colorado Springs, Dr. E. H. Nordstrom of Lincoln, Lewis Berggren and family, Allan Berggren and family, Brooke Berggren, Forrest Berggren all of Stromsburg, and Leroy Berggren and daughter of Shelby. A nice time was enjoyed by all.
The 1962 Polk County Operation Bootstrap Spring Tour will showcase bootstrappers with two year or older pastures of new type stock in raw and solid stands, both irrigated and dry. Harold Kjingman notes beef cattle numbers rose 40 percent since 1959 and invites inspection.
Thirteen Home Society members and visitor Mrs. Wayne Creech gathered at Mrs. M. O. Johnson’s country home for a May meeting. Emory Cramer read Freedom of Speech, presented year-end reports, and announced June officer takeovers. A June Seward tour was approved by ballot. Bunco evening, hostess gifts, lunch, and goodbyes followed. Reporter Myrtle Werner notes hospitality and windblown departure.
Mrs Maude Dorsey Myers 86 mother of Mrs Marie Nelson of La Mesa California was buried Monday at 2 30 pm in Arborville Cemetery She died at her Arcadia home last Wednesday May 23 Daughter of a pioneer Arborville resident she moved to Arcadia in 1918 with her husband James Dorsey Surviving are four children sisters and a brother
Trinity Lutheran Church plans a Bible School program Sunday evening at 8:00. The event aims to engage members and families in a faith education activity within the church program.
Mr and Mrs Roger Gustafson were visitors in Otis William son home Friday evening. Mr and Mrs Walter Binford returned home Friday from a week with daughter and husband Harold Burge at O Neill. Mrs Sylvia Blomquist of Rock Island Illinois and Mrs Ruth Kroger s were Wahoo visitors Sunday and attended Baccalaureate services of Luther College. The Commencement marked the final closing of the college. Many alumni attended Miss Hazel Nelson of Downing California spent Wednesday with Mrs Ruth Kroger and Max.
