Plans were made for a Fourth of July barbecue and fireworks with committees named. Donations to the Summer Recreation Fund totaled 2876 50 with gifts from Country Woman's Club Reuben Anderson and others noted.
Mr and Mrs Darrell Claypool are parents of a son born May 13 weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Alvin Stranberg of Hordville.
Mr Maurits Johnson entered St Francis Hospital at Grand Island on Friday. Mr Grant Johnson returned home Sunday from Clarkson Hospital in Omaha after heart surgery. Enoch Peterson entered Osceola Hospital on Saturday. Willard Acheson returned home Sunday from Aurora Hospital.
Market prices for wheat corn soybeans and oats listed for Polk region. Wheat at 2.90 per bushel, corn 2.58, oats 1.80, soybeans 4.65 per bushel. Notes show typical agricultural price readings with OCR garble.
Dwight Burney Sr congratulated his grandson Dwight Burney III at the Doctors graduation in Omaha on Sunday. The ceremony also highlighted Dwight Burney III's wife Gwen Robinson Burney and featured Milton Johnson of Colorado Springs as a third Dr Burney in attendance.
John Raymond Sundberg born January 12 1900 on a Polk County farm died May 24 1975 at Bryan Memorial Hospital age 75. He married Edna Jones in 1919 and had three children. Survived by Edna, son Harvey and wife Irene of Polk two daughters Delores Johnson and Ramona Stromberg, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother Lawrence Sundberg and wife Edna of Rockford Indiana. Memorial services May 27 at First Baptist Church Polk. Interment Lindale Cemetery near Polk.
Osceola park hosts a Bi-centennial picnic on June 9 at 12 30 with speaker Loren Schmidt. Osceola ladies provide food for 2.25. Notify Maxine Hanquist Sylvia Sandell or LaVina Hanquist by June 6 to attend.
The Polk County Historical Society will dedicate the sod house at the county museum grounds in Osceola on Sunday June 1 at 2 pm. A short program will honor all who lived in or slept in a sod house and invite them to share memories. Contact Mildred Flodman before 2 pm. This event accompanies the Osceola Bicentennial celebration May 29 to June 1.
