Oliver Bakers 25th Observed Sunday at Polk Hall

About 75 relatives and friends gathered May 23 at Polk Community Hall to celebrate Mr and Mrs Oliver Baker's 25th anniversary with Col Cyril Dean Sterner as MC. The celebration featured musical numbers by Ron Adams, a Polk Community Players mock wedding, and anniversary slides. Guests came from Hastings Lincoln Columbus Schuyler Doniphan York Benedict.

K N Gas Announces Another Price Hike

Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company filed new residential and commercial rate increases for 153 Nebraska communities served at retail. The rise stems from higher gas costs after a Federal Power Commission order dated January 1 1977. East of McCook 5.1 cents per thousand cubic feet hike adds about 65 cents monthly to the typical homeowner bill. Rates take effect July 1.

Saw-Whet Owl Beep Beep Mystery At Hordville

Mrs Bill Helleberg and neighbors heard nightly beeps near their cabin north of town. State Patrol helped locate the source, a saw-whet owl that had been lingering around the area. The owl will recover and resume its flights, emitting beeps instead of hoots.
