A 2 year old assumes duties at the Progress office, referring to the workspace as his Mommy's house. He helps, rearranges, and exams linotypes while his parents describe the chaos, noises, and naps that follow in the busy print shop.
Valedictorian Sue Erickson and salutatorian Peggy Neeman lead 19 seniors at a May 19 8 p.m. commencement in Polk High School auditorium. Principal Brutto will present diplomas with Melvin Bender awarding them. Eighth grade promotion conducted by Superintendent Walter Nielsen. Photographs of the seniors appear in this Progress.
Local Cancer committee thanks donors for support totaling 517.65 from groups including American Legion Polk Woman's Club Country Woman's Club and American Legion Auxiliary and memorials to Irene Widga and Emma Johnson. Janice Saylor Verlene Anderson Fern Myers Maxine Hanquist Lavina Hanquist served as committee members.
Trinity Lutheran Church announces a Vacation Bible School from May 23 to May 27. Non members may preregister by May 15. call Marsha Redman at 765-6241 or Anita Norquest at 765-3808 to plan crafts and materials for attending children.
Mr and Mrs Lee Lee of Grand Island announce the engagement of their daughter Cynthia Jean to Kendall Sandell son of Mr and Mrs Elwood Sandell of Polk. Miss Lee 1974 graduate of Kearney State College teaches at Boelus. Fiance 1972 graduate of University of Nebraska worked for Farmers Home Administration now farming near Polk. A June 4 wedding is planned at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island Nebraska.
The American Legion Auxiliary met May 9 with twenty-six members and two visitors. They plan poppy sales on May 21 for Poppy Day and will place bouquets in four local churches May 29 while decorating crosses May 27. Officers were elected: President Janice Saylor, VP Susan Sundberg, Sec Becky Carlstrom, Treas Fern Myers.
Correction notice updates the Kindergarten Roundup to May 16 instead of May 12. The event date is revised to align with the school calendar and to avoid scheduling conflicts for families and staff.
Arild Swanson underwent surgery at York General Hospital on Monday. Mr and Mrs Cecil Garret of Worth, Missouri. Myron Garret of Ca mera, Missouri. Mr and Mrs Carl Christensen of Grand Island were Monday evening and Tuesday guests of Mr and Mrs Wm. Munn. Mrs Esther Peterson, Mrs Anna Eisler, Mrs Leonard Anderson and son were Monday afternoon lunch guests of Mr and Mrs Oscar Anderson.
The American Legion Auxiliary Lemuel R. Wilcox Unit 160 organized on March 19 1925 with 29 charter members. Meetings were held in various locations including the Anderson Building and later the Lodge Hall. Activities included Memorial Poppy sales quilt making for rehabilitation clothing and aid to veterans and flood tornado and fire victims. The unit supports rehabilitation child welfare and community service and sponsors senior citizens bingo.
