Lutheran Ladies Cited By Ak Sar Ben

The Ak Sar Ben ninth annual awards honored seven statewide groups for public service. W D Lane praised Nebraska groups and good neighborliness. The Ladies of Immanuel Lutheran Church Polk were cited for tending a neighbor’s ill relative.

Faithful Workers Entertain Polk Woman's Club

The Faithful Workers Club hosted the Polk Woman's Club at Mrs. Ester Lockey's home on Tuesday April 29. Guests Mrs. Harold Cramer and Mrs. Charles Nore heard Mr. and Mrs. Wariatte of South Africa discuss Educational and Missionary work and answer questions. Two visitors attending York College spoke about studying in America to become missionaries, and 35 ladies attended. Refreshments with May Basket motifs followed the meeting led by Mrs. Lawrence Larson, Mrs. Lyle Dornburgh, and Mrs. Emory Cramer. The next gathering on May 28 at Mrs. Cleo Cramer's home will honor mothers and charter members for the club's 30th anniversary.

Softball Pow Wow Sets Plans for Coming Season

A Wednesday night meeting with the Commercial Club aims to shape the softball season. Captains from eight teams will discuss manpower losses and potential changes including a four team league, pooling players, and scheduling to one game weekly. The discussion seeks to draft team assignments and secure member participation at the Fire Hall starting at 8 o'clock.
