DOUG STEVENS PROMOTED TO FIRST LIEUTENANT

Douglas L. Stevens 24, son of Mr and Mrs Earl T Stevens of Polk, promoted to Army first lieutenant Feb 20 at Ft. Riley Kansas. He serves as a physical therapist at Irwin Army Hospital and is accompanied by his wife Linda at the fort.

Bloodmobile in Polk on Monday March 25

The Bloodmobile will be in Polk at the Polk Community Hall from 11 00 a.m. to 3 00 p.m. for donors aged 18 to 60 with parental consent for minors unless married. A back up test will be offered for Hemoglobin failures. No fasting required but moderate meals and fluids advised. Appointment requests to Mrs Anna Kisler or Mrs Dean Myers.

County Cancer Drive Kick-off Meeting Scheduled

Polk County Cancer Crusade announces a kick-off meeting on Wednesday March 27 at 2 00 p m in the REA Building Stroms burg for Crusade workers and awareness. April is Cancer Control Month per President Johnson with neighbors calling for donations. Co chairs are Mrs Kent Perry Shelby and Mrs Raymond Lindblade Osceola. Polk County chairman is Mrs N E H McNaught.

Mr and Mrs Larson to Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Wm J Larson will host a house at Calvary Lutheran Church Swede Home Sunday March 24 1968 from 2 30 to 5 00. A short program at 3 00. Friends and relatives invited with out further invitation. The couple request no gifts.

Floyd Dalzell to Lead Gospel Crusade in Polk

Evangelist Floyd Dalzell will conduct nightly services at 7 30 P M from Sunday March 24 to Friday March 29 at the Evangelical Free Church in Polk. The gospel crusade will feature Dalzell and is open to the public.

County Spelling Winners Named for Osceola

In Osceola on March 16 the fifth and sixth grade county spelling contest crowned Kile Olson first and Lynette Creech fourth among thirty entrants. Debra Luft led seventh and eighth grade with first place and is set to compete in the District I Spelling Contest in Seward on April 4. Luft also advances to the Midwest Spelling Bee in Omaha on April 20. Randy Neujahr is listed as the alternate.

Local Chapter Honors Star Supervisor

Willanna Chapter No 331 O B S holds a special meeting on March 15 to entertain district supervisor Mrs Mary Peterson of Loup City. A noon luncheon at Mrs Charlene Shenk’s home precedes a school of instruction and an evening session featuring a gifted talk by Mrs Peterson and a chapter gift.

Polk County Heart Fund Drive Totals $1380.63 in 1968

County chairman Mr. Enoch Ekstrand reports the Polk County Heart Fund drive raised $1380.63 from Osceola Polk Shelby Stromsburg and nearby towns. The American Legion Auxiliary led by Mrs Anna Kisler collected the funds to support heart disease research and public health education.

The Legion hosts a skating party for Legionnaire's children in grades 2 through 8 on Friday March 22. Meet at the Legion Hall at 6 45 PM for the event.

Polk Heart Fund Totals $230 in Community Drive

Chairman Mrs Dwayne Miller reports a final Polk Heart Fund total of $230.75 collected in the community. She thanks each person who sent envelopes to neighbors and helped the drive.

Auxiliary Reports On Heart Fund Drive

Auxiliary members met Monday March 11 for the regular session. Blood mobile set for Monday March 25 at Polk Community Hall from 11 am to 3 pm. Donnette Ostberg named Girls State delegate with Donette Jones as alternate. Legion marks 50th anniversary with party March 19 at 8 pm in the Legion Hall. Five dollars voted to Nebraska Children’s Home in Omaha. Roller skating party planned for March 22 for grades 2 through 8 with guests invited. Heart Fund envelopes nearly all in with 228.75 collected. Jean Anderson spoke on Civil Defense. Lunch served by Ruth Bills, Myrtle Johnson, Myrtle Werner and Joyce Baack.

Birthday Party for Mrs Sigrid Alfred by Sunday School Class

Mrs Sigrid Alfred was honored Friday by the Ambassador Sunday School Class of the Baptist church at Mrs P. W. Aker's home. Fifteen members attended with Mrs Venora Wood as special guest. A decorated cake and yellow and white chrysanthemum bouquet marked the birthday celebration.

A county court record lists multiple individuals from Stromsburg Osceola Shelby and nearby areas cited for day or night speeding expired license plates and liquor in body along with fines ranging from 5 to 55 dollars.
