House Approves 4-Cent Gas Tax and Highway Funds

The Nebraska House approved a 4-cent gasoline tax bill with an amendment expanding the shrinkage allowance for oil companies from 2 to 4 percent, detailing a $170,000 annual increase to cover leakage and other losses. Douglas County could use its share of the tax to back highway bonds, about $250,000 yearly. Missouri River funds total $1,000,000 for Kansas City to Sioux City projects and $41,587,960 for river and harbor work nationwide for the coming year.

Kearney P G Holden of Chicago agricultural expert joined instructors at the third annual irrigation school held March 12 13. Farm bureau and Kearney chamber of commerce organized. Farmers spoke of pump method irrigation and eleven manufacturers exhibited equipment. Last year over two hundred attended daily.
