Ellen Steelquist obituary from Polk area
Ellen Almina Steelquist daughter of August and Wilhelmina Steelquist was born near Polk March 27, 1887. She died March 13, 1964 at Parkside Home Grand Island age 76. She married William J. Kroger February 20 1907 and they raised four children. She joined Fridhem Lutheran then Polk Methodist Church and was active in WSCS and Order of the Eastern Star. Survived by husband two daughters two sons in law a daughter in law six grandchildren five great grandchildren brother Carl Steelquist. Funeral March 16 at Polk Methodist Church officiated by Rev O A Johnson with soloist Mrs James Lindburg and organist Mrs Dean Ostberg. Interment Hardville Cemetery.

Bus Line Providing Good Polk Service
The Nebraska Motor Coach bus makes twice daily stops at the Polk Hotel. Mrs. Arnold Neuhaus reports the first ticket was bought by Lawrence Akerman who rode to Omaha and back. Six tickets were sold last Saturday, the most in one day. Freight service allows orders from Omaha or Lincoln with on time connections to Polk. The line handles freight up to 800 pounds with rates by mileage and a minimum of one dollar for under two pounds.

Goldenrod Conference Sets 1965 Basketball Tournament Sites
Schools in the Goldenrod Conference vote to stage the 1965 basketball tournament at Polk and the following year at Palmer.
