In Polk voters favor 145 to 91 for bonds to add and alter the district No. 72 school building. The result clears the 60 percent requirement by about four votes. a 45 percent federal grant appears likely, with construction possible around June 1.
Mr and Mrs R J Hunsacker and daughter return from California were to arrive soon. Rev W E Headberg attended the Baptist Young People Convention in Hordville. Mrs W H Baker hosted a ladies party with informal afternoon and refreshments. Commercial Club banquet and musical program at the Methodist Church drew a large crowd. Elijah Gove Chapter D A R met with Mrs L H Headstrom. Mrs Arnold Thoren assisted. Program titled Old Time Music led by Mrs WM Scott. dainty refreshments served. Mrs C C Westenius presented Elijah Gove D A R at state convention. Dr Charles Rippie visiting from New York City. Withrow farm to build a new modern house and farmstead. Mrs Jungbloodth, Mrs Klopper, Mrs Feuhr and family, and Miss Edna Olson were guests of Mr and Mrs J L Olson. Richard Christensen left Ripley Drug Co York for Hansen Drug Store Osceola. Mr and Mrs W D Rystrom returned from two months in California. Vernon Anderson, Lincoln, visited with his parents. Gerald Anderson, UNL journalism student, visited home. AR Chapter P E O met at Mrs C A Rystrom Osceola. many Stromsburg ladies attended. An interesting program followed by refreshments.
Miss Frances Green eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Keith Green and Mr Lawrence Richards of Sumner Nebraska wed at the Methodist Church Parsonage on Sunday March 14 at 4 pm Rev E E Pengelly reading the marriage lines Attendants were Miss Marguerite Anderson and Mr Harold Law A luncheon for 45 relatives and friends followed at the Kisler home in Arporville in honor of Mr Kisler s birthday The couple planned to return to Sumner that evening

E W Boettcher and G G Walters of Rockwell Iowa narrowly avoided death when their westward car collided with an eastbound freight near Osceola. The car was lifted by the engine onto the depot platform before skidding away with only minor damage. Station agent Calhoun witnessed the near tragedy.

Sunday dinner guests were Mr and Mrs Henry Shostrom and Mr and Mrs Carroll Flodman at the home of Mr and Mrs Chas Johnson.

Charlies A. McCloud former Republican national committeeman and president of the First National Bank of York suffered a slight paralytic stroke at his home Tuesday afternoon as he prepared to return to the bank. Attending doctors said his speech was impaired but not serious and that his exact condition could not be determined at once.

Parties included a shower for Mrs Bill Reading former Fran ces Ramsay and multiple family gatherings with the Bedients Dahlgrens and Scheaplers.
The American Society for the Control of Cancer forms a Women’s Field Army to educate the public. With the slogan Early Cancer is Curable Fight it with Knowledge, a country-wide drive runs March 21 to 27. Members can join for $1 via appointed lieutenants led by Mrs. Estor Lackey, Polk County Chairman.
R L Anderson will hold a public sale at his residence two blocks west of the First State Bank at Hordville on Friday March 19. The sale begins promptly at 1 00 PM. Horses and mules cattle hogs and a large variety of farm machinery will be offered.
The Hordville businessmen sponsor an annual Band Benefit Monday March 22 at the High School Auditorium. Oyster feed precedes a program of band and High School Male Chorus numbers directed by Karl H Steurmer. Lucille Engstrom of Grand Island brings tap dancers from Central City in fancy dress, about twenty numbers. crowd of about three hundred expected.
W H Smith, treasurer of the County Agricultural Conservation Association, reports the first lot of green check payments amounting to over 34000 has been distributed to most conservation applicants in Osceola Clear Creek Island Hackberry precincts. Remaining precinct payments are expected this week. Various local residents were noted as visitors in neighboring towns over the past week.
