Engagement announced for Patrice Ann Naggatt and Rick Hoffman

Mr and Mrs Louis Naggatt of Edgar announce the engagement of their daughter Patrice Ann to Rick Hoffman son of Mr and Mrs Harold Hoffman of Polk. Patrice is a Sandy Creek High School graduate of 1974 and a Hastings College junior majoring in Elementary and Special Education. Rick is a Polk High School 1975 graduate, attended Hastings College and is employed by Burr Land Leveling. An August 19 wedding is planned.

Bloodmobile collects sixty units in Polk

The Bloodmobile visited Polk on Friday March 4 and collected sixty units of blood. Lauretta Neuhaus received a 2 gallon pin and Leonard Anderson a 1 gallon pin. A list names eleven first time donors and numerous other donors and volunteers assisted with daylong duties and standby coverage.

Polk Cubs Fall In First Round To Adams In Class D

Polk high school basketball ended with a 73 60 loss to Adams in the opening round of the State Class D finals. Tom Carlstrom led Polk with 26 points as the Cubs struggled from the field and at the free throw line. Coach Mike Fleming praised a strong season and looked to next year.

Senior Citizens Card Party at Legion Hall

The Senior Citizens Card Party is set for 2 00 p m at Legion Hall on Tuesday March 22 participants to bring cards and enjoy an afternoon event hosted by local seniors group at the Legion Hall.

Pancake Supper Planned by Swede Plain United Methodist Women

The Swede Plain United Methodist Women announce a pancake supper and bake sale on Friday March 18 from 5:00 to 7:30 at Polk Community Hall. A free will offering will be collected.

MOD Walkathon and Bikeathon Set for Saturday

Polk County hosts a rain or shine event with 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. registration Saturday March 19. Route checkpoints include Sherman Wilshusen Calmer Johnson Darwin Carlson and Kenneth Johnson with lunch at Polk Community Hall and Stromsburg Viking Center. Prizes rely on donations due before Friday and a dance March 25 in Polk High gym where the county king and queen are announced by Cheryl Fisher.

Arnon Dover 9 Dies After Fall at Polk Community

Arnon Dover died Tuesday morning at Central City hospital aged nine. A Polk area lifelong farmer and laborer who helped build Polk after 1906 land sales, he previously lived in York and Lincoln. He loved fiddle playing and repaired fiddles and bows.

Clarence Newton 88 of Osceola died Sunday afternoon The funeral is set for Wednesday March 16 at 2 00 p.m. at Arborville Church with burial in Arborville cemetery He formerly lived in Polk and spent years in the Odd Fellows Home York and later the Good Samaritan Home Osceola.
