Epidemic suspected as Polk schools shut after illness

Polk Public Schools closed Friday after 40 high school students and 34 from the grade school were absent due to illness. Doctors from Kansas City and Omaha examined families and patients over the weekend seeking patterns, with officials suspecting a new flu virus. The illness is mild in most cases, but its sudden spread concerns public health officials.

Students Enter Inter Scholastic Tests at Kearney

Polk High School will send 25 students to the Kearney Inter scholastic Contests at Kearney State College this Friday. They will compete in 25 subject areas, with some students taking tests in more than one area. About 175 Nebraska schools participate.

County Government Day was held in Osceola on Wednesday March 16 for county high school juniors. Bus Company Proposes Route Cut North of Stromsburg

An application with the Nebraska State Railway Commission by Deryl L. Turner of Nebraska Motor Coaches seeks to discontinue the portion of the Oma hap Stromsburg route south and west of Stromsburg via US 81 to the US 66 junction, then west to 14 and north to Central City, eliminating Polk and Hardville stops. A Omaha to Stromsburg schedule is proposed. views are due by March 25 1966 and a hearing may be set for March 30 1966 with notifications to interested parties.

Legion Auxiliary Ladies Meet at Paul Strand Home

Sixteen American Legion Auxiliary members gathered at the Paul Strand home for a 12:30 luncheon. Guest speaker Mrs. David Rutter of Osceola discussed recruiting for the Bloodmobile visit to Polk County on March 24 at the Methodist Church. Lindburgs Return From Six Week Trip To West

Mr and Mrs M G Lindburg arrived back March 11 after six weeks traveling by car to Phoenix and Pasadena then flying from Los Angeles to the Hawaiian Islands.
