The Swede Plains M E Church invites worship at 10 00 Sunday with Sunday School at 11 00. The message quotes Col 1 9 10 urging believers to seek wisdom and walk worthily, noting spring work and harvest as a parallel to spiritual labor. Members are urged to attend Sunday morning services.
The IM. Lutheran Church invites attendance for regular Sunday services at 3:30 PM and mid week Lenten services at Town Hall 8 PM on Wednesday. Pastor Carl F. Juergensen urges visitors to attend and notes visitors are welcome.
E E Pengelly, minister, calls for full participation in Sunday School at 10 and Morning Worship at 11 with Evening Service at 7 30 during Lent and toward Easter. Tuesday sessions focus on the Passion and Suffering. Ladies Aid hosts a Social Time Friday in the church basement with puppet entertainment by Miss Olive McBeth, lunch, and a silver offering. Children and youth urged to attend. parents asked to bring them and stay for the service.

Polk High School defeats Rising City 28 to 21 to clinch the Class B district championship at Benedict. The win advances Polk to the State Tournament in Lincoln, following earlier victories over Benedict and Henderson and a rematch triumph over Rising City.
Miss Allegra Wilkens assistant agent in Boys and Girls 4-H club work will lead a leaders training session in Osceola at the courthouse on Friday March 11. The event includes a 10 am morning session and 1 pm afternoon session focusing on starting meetings judging demonstrating and the Winter Clothes project for Polk County girls. Anyone may attend.
Marjory Widga 17 daughter of Mr and Mrs Ludwig Widga of a farm west of Stromsburg died after illness last week at Lutheran hospital in York. She was a student manager active in school affairs. Survived by parents three sisters and one brother. Additional community notes include AR Chapter PEO meeting elections. Andersons moving to Anna Beckman property. Home Economics dinner for Board of Education. Evins to David City as religious education instructor.
Mr and Mrs A K Crow visited with Albert Reed near Hordville on Sunday morning.

Mrs. Harold Reeb and Mrs. De Loss Buchholz attend Mrs. Fenster's birthday in Aurora. George Brooke suffers a heart attack but improves at home. Community clubs discuss school addition with WPA officials present. Women’s Club holds annual election with Inness as president and Campbell as vice president.
The second series of poultry schools will be held in Polk County on Monday March 14. L P Vance extension poultryman will lead a discussion on broader house problems and answer questions. Afternoon session at Stromsburg High School 1 45 p m Vocational agricultural room evening session at the court house 730 p m. All interested residents are welcome.

Injuries include Claude Bowker cutting his left arm and Jim Reeves breaking a finger while performing chores. both treated by Dr. J B Williams. Ardith Scheapler visits Hampton friends. Wurtz and Norquest families host and dine in York and Arborville areas.
Mrs J B Williams of this city received a letter from Mrs M B Fritzell of Congo Belge Africa describing the death of her husband Mr Fritzell during missionary work. The Fritzells planned to return to America after field conference January 9 to 16 and expect to reach New York in early April. They request prayers for the long journey and trust in the Lord’s guidance.
Polk High announces spring entries for 250 University of Nebraska Lincoln tuition scholarships funded by the board of regents. Entries due by March 14 with tests April 11 and 12 at the high school. Awards cover almost all tuition for freshmen, based on English and psychological tests, English composition, and reading ability.
On March 9 at high noon in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Wm Butzke of Seward Miss Arvilla Reeb married Mr Lester T Rehrs. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Reeb, is a Polk High School graduate class of 1934. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs Theo J Rehrs of Hampton. Attendants were Miss Esther Rehrs and Edgar Bulgrin. They will live on a Polk area farm after a wedding trip to Omaha and Iowa parts.
Lin coln hosts include Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fitch and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bush. Polk guests visit Mrs. Axel Fredrickson and Mrs. Esther Johnson hosts birthday and anniversary dinners with many families from Stromsburg Clarks Benedict York and Lincoln. District 70 activities include ice cream treats for Marland’s 12th birthday and hospital visits at Lincoln General. Theodore Nelson and Waldo Holm visit Luther College for weekend with parents.
Polk County farmers received soil conservation checks totaling 26938.64 dollars this week. Treasurer Bert Smith said the checks were mailed out early in the week and ranged from 3 to 585 dollars.
A shower for Arvilla Reed, future bride, was hosted at Mrs. Charles Carlson’s home Saturday. Blue and white decor set the theme as guests enjoyed games and contests. A luncheon for 70 guests followed, with many gifts presented to the honoree.
Word has arrived of the marriage of Missoura Anderson and Arthur Newton on February 10 in Denver. The bride is sister of Mrs. Hugh Turner of this city. They left last week for California to visit relatives.
Mr and Mrs Elwood Sandell and their baby spent Monday visiting Mrs Sandell's parents Mr and Mrs C R Leach near Hordville.
Mrs. George Lynn and family from Rogers visited Hordville relatives including Mrs. H. M. Campbell. Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln reports Donald Lampshire a patient. Omaha visitors include Roy Benson and Lee Holmes with local kin. Hastings day trip for Lee King and Rollo Scott. Dinner guests included Stanley Turpin and Margaret Young. Birthday greetings were shared at Mrs. J. E. Benson’s home. Will Cohaghan and Lamp shire family sitters. The band began its season with a first rehearsal at the hall followed by an oyster feed for local business leaders.
Sixty guests attended a miscellaneous shower for Miss Arvilla Reeb at the Polk home of her aunt Mrs. Charles Carlson. Hostesses included Mrs. Victor Kerker, Lincoln, Mrs. Harold Reeb, Osceola, and Mrs. L. E. Blase, Hardville. The blue and white theme featured streamers candles and miniature bride and groom sets. Games followed by a two course lunch. Out of town guests included Mrs. Theo Rehrs and Mrs. Herbert Rehrs of Hampton, Mrs. Kerker of Lincoln, Mrs. Harold Reed Osceola, Mrs. Blase and Berniece of Hordville, and Mrs. Lloyd Hahn of Stromsburg.
The Country Women's Club gathered at Mrs Willard Adelson's home with 14 members and 2 visitors. Vice-President Mrs Elmer Sandberg called the meeting to order and a luncheon followed a brief business session. Next meeting set with Mrs Hugo Person on March 24.
The City Municipal Light and Water Works reports a 1937 net profit exceeding $2,800. The balance sheet, approved by the village board, shows electric revenue of 1,776.16 and notes $1,500 of light fund water bonds and $1,000 of water bonds purchased, totaling $2,500 of bonds taken up in 1937. Two damage cases in district court were settled Tuesday after both sides agreed on terms. Daniel Freeman sued the City of Stromsburg for 50000 over injuries from an electric line incident. settlement reached after a jury was selected. Mrs From sued Jack Wills and R P Agnew over a fatal auto accident. amount not disclosed. The jury was dismissed and ordered to report March 21 if further action is needed.
Everette Green son of Mr and Mrs Walter Green of this city who for two years has worked as Coach for Hays Center School Nebraska has been elected Superintendent with a substantial raise. Everette graduated Polk High School class of 1932. Friends here wish him success.
The Polk County farmers and friends gather at the Quace Methodist Church for a 6 30 p m covered dish supper Thursday March 17. Miss Jennivee Cook hosts assisted by Mrs Petrus Nelson Mrs Rex Brigham and Mrs Elmer Tooker serve. Thomas Wilson renowned lecturer will entertain and J P Ross extension supervisor attends. Everyone may bring lunch and enjoy the evening.
A group of 44H club boys organized the High Prairie Meat Production Club at Gordon Fredrickson’s home with eight members present. Officers were elected: Leader Louis Willis, President Robert Willits, Vice President Ralph Willits, Secretary-Treasurer Robert Oberg, News Reporter John Carlson. They plan to raise pigs calves or sheep as part of their work.
