Cornell University outlines a method to slow sprouting and shriveling in stored beets carrots turnips and rutabagas. Methyl ester of alpha naphthalene acetic acid slows root and top growth, reducing decay and improving keeping qualities when applied in paper or dust distributed evenly through storage, about 100 pounds of paper or 25 pounds of dust per 100 bushels.
