Polk Cubs edge Hampton in thrilling District 5 final

In frigid gym air Polk wins 56-54 over Hampton to claim the Class D District 5 crown and advance to regional play. Dana Anderson led Polk early with inside baskets while Roger Carlstrom scored 16 before fouling out. Hampton battled back with Som Schrader and Dean Klute in a tense fourth period but Polk held on.

Country Women's Club Meets at Edna Sundberg Home

The Country Women's Club met February 22 at Edna Sundberg's home with eight members and three visitors present. President Myrtle Johnson led, with songs, flag salute, and club creed. Lois Meerkatz and Helen Samuels led the day’s program. Yatzee prize winners were Deloras Johnson, Hi and Clara Anderson. Helens Samuels gave a Lincoln penny quiz. Myrtle Johnson and Dorothy Adelson also won prizes.

Polk Cubs Nips Gresham 52 51 In Class D District Play

Roger Carlstrom drove the winning shot after a missed attempt, then scored on the rebound to lift Polk Cubs over Gresham 52 51. Carlstrom totaled 28 points on 14 field goals, with Dana Anderson 11 and Doug Branz 17 for Gresham, Haberman 11 and Liedtke 10 for Polk.

Community Club to Hold Pancake Supper March 15

The Polk Community Club sponsors a pancake supper in the Community Hall on Saturday March 15. Proceeds will fund remodeling of the hall. More details to follow next week.

Deb Wolfe of Polk has been elected student senator at Chadron State College. An English major and daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Wolfe, she is active in English Goals Organization, Psychology Club, Daughters of the Crossed Swords, and Student Education Association. She will aid the English Department as a senator.

Community Chorus Practices Schedule for Palm Sunday Concert

The Community Chorus meets every Wednesday at 8 24 PM in the high school auditorium for preparation of the annual Palm Sunday concert.

Mrs Robert Willits visited her mother Mrs Lena Johnson at the Coven ant Home in Stromsburg. Numerous Friday Saturday and Sunday visits followed across Stromsburg Lincoln Osceola and Central City as friends and relatives attended meals funerals and sports events. The Polk Methodist Study club met with Mrs Evelyn Shenk on Monday afternoon.
