Hospital Notes: Lampshire, Sundberg Return Home

Mr Gilbert Lampshire came home Tuesday from St Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln and is recovering nicely. Oscar Sundberg returned home from York hospital on Saturday. Murray Nelson is a patient in Aurora hospital.

Polk High Cubs Win District Final in Central City

Polk High Cubs beat Hampton 62 to 47 in the Central City district finals to claim the championship trophy. Dana Anderson scored 20, Monte Hudson 13, and Randy Branting and Tom Carlstrom 11 each as Polk led from start to finish. The Cubs face a Friday regional game in Fullerton, with details via Paul Wagner.

Stolen Mower Strikes Arborville Cemetery Grounds

A riding mower valued over 1000 dollars was stolen from Arborville Cemetery. The exact theft time is unknown. Fred Bedient found the caretaker building door open on Monday and noticed truck or pickup tracks used to haul the mower. The gate remained bolted though the chain wasn’t hung normally.

Break-in Damages Both School Buildings

Burglars damaged Polk high school and elementary building during a Wednesday night to Thursday morning break-in. The incident caused 700 to 1000 dollars in damage and about 100 dollars stolen in cash from both offices. Checks were found. six high school rooms were pried open with no losses. An unknown method opened the elementary building door as an onscreen window was tampered with. Evidence shows intruders entered the cafeteria kitchen via a return window. An apple was eaten and milk consumed with eggs broken on walls.

Community Hall Donations From American Legion Post 160

The American Legion Post 160 in Polk donated three 12 ft tables fifty folding chairs and a chair cart to the Community Hall. The furnishings cost about forty five hundred dollars and a fifty dollar anonymous donation was received during the week.

Cub Scouts Hold Banquet and Pinewood Derby Night

Cub Scout Pack No 163 held a Blue and Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby on February 24 at the Polk Community Hall. A pot luck supper fed about 60 parents and guests as Webelos presented the flag. Bobcat Eddie Coover Darwin Love Brian Jones Lance Meerkatz and Wolf Steve Anderson earned badges. Derby winners were Brian Jones Steve Anderson and Jim Fisher.
