Hyde announces engagement of Sandra Hyde to Gary Stohl

Dr and Mrs Clyde M Hyde announce the engagement of their daughter Sandra to Gary Stohl of Lincoln son of Mr and Mrs Walter Stohl of Polk Polk County. Sandra Hyde attended Rochester Junior College and works at the University of Nebraska. Gary Stohl graduated from Nebraska Kansas Kearney State College and belongs to Lambda Delta Lambda and Beta Beta Beta. He has taught at Millard Lesler Junior High in Lincoln for two years. An August 5 wedding is planned at St Marks Methodist Church in Lincoln.

Summer Recreation Program Fund Sees Strong Weekly Gains

Contributions to the summer recreation program reach 459.49 after a 48 increase, marking the best week for donor totals since the drive began. Upcoming schedule includes two girls games at Clark s Wednesday and a boys tournament at Polk from June 29 to July 2 with teams Bradshaw Benedict Waco Shelby and Gresham. The five teams have won 24 games and lost 5, with the small boys undefeated.

Postoffice moved during remodel in Polk area

Polk residents faced mail delays as the postoffice quarters were remodeled and temporarily relocated three doors west. Lee Bayer, assistant postmaster, noted operations returning to the original site with postcards no longer a penny, and patrons like Charlie Lytle sought guidance at the Progress office.

Lanny Ang Inducted Into Armed Forces

Lanny Lee Ang, son of Mr and Mrs Stanford Ang of Polk, was forwarded to Omaha on June 15 for induction into the Armed Forces. The Physical Examination Call listed four registrants sent to Omaha the same day for exams. Polk County Local Board.

Kendall Sandell was released from the Orthopedic hospital in Lincoln and is home. Robert Merchant recuperates at home after surgery at York General to remove a wire chunk from his foot, thrown by a power lawn mower. Mrs Cliff Penrose and sons of Madison Illinois visit Mrs Lovette McCoy and relatives. Daughter Mrs Baker and sons of Hershey stay with her mother. Ivan Johnson and wife return from a 10 day Idaho Falls trip visiting May Selton and other relatives.

Weather Turns Drier After Rainy Week

The week ended with three dry days Saturday through Tuesday June 27 as showers earlier in the week brought 2.17 inches of rain. Total for the year reaches 24.78 inches while farmers resume field work after the wet spell and a Polk landfill accumulates floating debris along its fence.

Arborville Stitch and Stir Club Meeting Judging Activities

Ten members and two visitors met on June 14 to judge suitable materials for sewing projects. Older girls selected fabric for a skirt and blouse, a decorative pillow cover, portfolio pages, and matching frames. Younger girls chose fabric for a laundry bag, dust clothes, hangers, and bakeware. Teresa Bedient and Penny Bills reported on their Junior Leaders Training Camp. Refreshments were served by Luanne Glad and Susan Cramer.

News of the death of Mrs. A. P. Miller aged 78 reached Mr and Mrs Orlie Miller. The passing occurred Saturday evening in Boulder Colorado.

Funeral services held for Floyd Oberg at Salt Funeral Home

Funeral services for Floyd Oberg, 71, were held Wednesday at Salt Funeral Home in Central City. He died Sunday at Central City hospital after illness began Friday. Burial was planned for Polk Cemetery. obituary to follow next week.

MacLemmon couple marks 50th with York open house

Mr and Mrs MacLemmon of 1148 East 6th York celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday July 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the 4 H building in York. Friends and relatives invited no gifts requested. They have five daughters and sixteen grandchildren plus three great grandchildren.

Home Society Club Meeting Note June 21

The Home Society Club met on Wednesday afternoon, June 21 with Minnie Mier. Ella Cramer hosted. Eleven members and one guest attended. President Myrtle Johnson led the meeting and a $10 donation to the Omaha Children's Home was decided. Minnie Mier won high score. Ben Johnson low. Sadie Clark won the hostess gift. The July meeting will be with Minnie Mier. Mae Johnson, Reporter.
