Reports state that gates at the Lake Ericson dam were washed out during Sunday's storm and the lake has drained. Lake Ericson has long served Polk County residents as a summer resort for 25 years, and the impact on the resort remains uncertain.

Griswold cites Russian wait-and-see aim on US troops

Former Nebraska governor Dwight Griswold told Congressmen in Washington that Moscow aims to induce a US withdrawal from Germany by dampening American resolve. Oklahoma man fined under new drunken driver law

The first Polk County prosecution under the new drunken driver law resulted in Frank Muzny of Oklahoma City being fined 50 dollars plus costs in county court on Monday for drunken driving. His Nebraska driving license was suspended for 30 days.

Rain Ends Polk County Drought with Inch and a Half

Polk County enjoyed a six hour drought break Saturday night as a heavy rain added one and a half inches of moisture. No damage reported locally though the Loup River flooded farms near Columbus. Hy 81 north of the Platte River washed out and access to Columbus roads closed.
