Polk Fourth Of July Fireworks And Softball

Polk Community Club sponsors fireworks after a softball game between Clarks and Polk at the Polk ball diamond. Admissions 50c and 25c, preschoolers free, with Polk Volunteer Fire Department in charge. A Bean Day Eve entertainment committee was named at the Monday meeting.

Rebekah Lodge Visits IOOF Home At York

Polk Rainbow Rebekah Lodge 382 met June 13 at 7 30 p m with IOOF Home York members. Fifteen lodge members joined 21 home members. They voted to enter a float in Stromsburg Swedish Festival parade and enjoyed entertainment on origins and customs of June weddings with poetry and piano music.

Girls Tournament Opens at Clarks With Shelby Clash

The summer recreation program brings the girls softball team to Clarks for a league tournament starting Friday evening. They meet Shelby at 7 45 p m. The event runs through the weekend into Monday. Boys schedule a double header with Gresham Sunday night on the local diamond. Small boys prepare to play Waco next Monday evening on the local field. Two contributions to the Summer Recreation Fund boost total to 925 dollars.

Jim Majors To Head County Democrats

Polk County Democratic Convention met in Osceola with County chairman Jim Majors presiding. Officers elected for two years include Majors as Chairman McKeag as Vice Chair Rowan as Secretary Carmichael as Treasurer Bond as Publicity Chair. Majors and McKeag chosen as delegates to the state convention. Resolutions were adopted.

Dr and Mrs Darwin Newton and Tommy of Wilmington, N C arrived Thursday to visit Mrs Ernie Lott and family. Mr and Mrs Duane Newton hosted a Sunday dinner in their honor. Rainfall and hail batter Polk area crops

A heavy storm drenched Hardville with 1.75 inches of rain on Monday evening while Polk reported about half an inch. Central City experienced both hail and rain from the same storm, with hail damaging crops in the vicinity.

Donelson Family Golden Reunion Heads 50th Anniversary

The Donelson descendants gathered at the Viking Center in Stromsburg on Sunday June 16 for the 50th reunion. About 120 relatives attended a noon basket dinner followed by a program with poems, songs, and a history reading. A three tier anniversary cake and refreshments concluded the day with a group photo and memories shared. Birth announcements included Jodi Widga and twin Terry and Tina Satterwhite.
