Auxiliary Installs New Officers
The American Legion Auxiliary met on Monday June 9 in the Legion Wall. Frances Litty was the sole new member as officers were elected and installed led by Margaret Jones and Anna Eisler. New officers include President Arnold Neu haus Vice President Olof Ostberg Secretary Robert Steenbock Treasurer Everett Green. Members discussed recruiting eligible women with connections to veterans and supporters of democracy. Lunch for 24 members and 6 guests was provided by Hulda Gestrine Ruth Gestrine Edna Gestrine and Frank Bolton.

Joe Johnson Passes Away Sunday
Joe Johnson aged 78 longtime Polk resident died Sunday at Hastings Hospital. Survived by two daughters Mrs Rudolph Gustafson Polk and Mrs Lyle Ostberg Rock Island Wisconsin two sons Milford and Elwyn Polk. Services held Wednesday 1 30 pm Brauer Funeral Home and 2 pm Baptist Church Hordville with burial Swedish Baptist cemetery.

Obituary: Mrs Emil Stranberg’s Life of Faith and Family
Hulda Mary Swenson born January 1 1888 in Ostergotland Sweden died June 13 1952 at age 64 5 12. She came to America with her parents in 1888 settled at Chapman and Marquette Nebraska marrying Emil Stranberg in 1906. They lived near Hordville and Polk Nebraska raising five children. Survived by husband three sons two daughters fourteen grandchildren and many relatives. Active in Mamre Mission and Evangelical Free churches she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 1950 and remained ill until death. Services were held June 17 1952 at Evangelical Free Polk and Mamre Mission Hordville Cemetery services conducted by Rev Clifford Smith and Rev Donald Leff. Continuous music featured mixed quartet duets and solo. Pallbearers listed.

John Gustafson earned the Master of Science degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor during commencement. He was among candidates completing work for the degree. Mr and Mrs Dean Samuelson and son visited her parents Mr and Mrs Walter Nyberg on Sunday.

Eastern Star Charter Granted in Polk Ceremony
The Polk chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star was constituted June 11, 1952 as Willanna Chapter No. 321. Grand officers from Omaha Lincoln and other towns attended with Ruth Akers Ruth Kroger singing Perfect Day and The Cradle Song. About 150 guests enjoyed a segal hour and 110 attendees joined a pre-meeting dinner at the Methodist Church hosted by Rebecca ladies with officers installed and honored.

Joseph C. McClure a Polk community pioneer died at 82 on Monday June 16 at Rest Manor Homes in Osceola. Survived by wife Mary Luanna two daughters Alice Nelson Polk Julia Rice Eric Kansas two sons George Omaha Jamez E Norco California. Funeral at 10 am Thursday at the Methodist Church with Rev Nels Pearson and Rev Milton O Connor. Burial in Polk Cemetery. Body will lie in state Thursday morning prior to service.

Softball Race Tightens as Bankers Defeat Johnsons
In a strong showing the Polk Bankers beat Johnsons Chevrolet 38 to 5 to hand them their first loss while Rube Anderson topped the mound for the Bankers with Bernie Land catching. Shorty Hahn took the loss as Johnsons squandered a late scoring chance with sacks loaded and two outs. Co op Oilers then dominated Legion 21 to 9 with Bud Bolton pitching, tying Legion for second place. Next Tuesday the Legion meet Johnsons and Oilers face Bankers.

Honorary pallbearers at Greenwood funeral in Polk area
Folk Legion men served as honorary pallbearers for the Franklin service. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.
