Reception Welcomes New Baptist Pastor

A reception and grocery shower honored Pastor Wood and his family at the Baptist church on Friday evening June 5. Ed Reckner led the welcome, with a program theme Building With God and a stone laying sequence by Don Hanquist as contractor. Out of town guests from York and Stromsburg attended.

Detassellers Sign Up Campaign Ahead of June 18

Columbus office reports similar detasseling activity in Rising City and Gresham this year. Sign-up aims to finish by June 18 with a Columbus representative at Brazda Implement Co. Polk from 9 to 10 a.m. and at Stromsburg Implement Co. Stromsburg from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. to aid registration.

Mrs Hadley Injured In One Car Accident

Mrs Clifford Hadley was injured in a one car crash four miles north of Swede Home. High wind and loose gravel contributed to the collision and she was hospitalized at Osceola hospital.

Rev Harold Jensen Appointed Methodist Pastor in Polk and Swede Plain

Announcement at the Nebraska Methodist conference in Scottsbluff named Rev Harold Jensen to serve Polk and Swede Plain churches. Bishop Kenneth Copeland announced other appointments and two new district superintendents. The Jensen family moved to Polk and he will preach this Sunday June 14.

Bruening Receives Divinity Degree at Denver Seminary

Gary L. Bruening was among 18 graduates at the Denver Tliff School of Theology earning a Bachelor of Divinity after three years of study. He previously earned a B A from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1961 and will serve a church in Minnesota pending ordination next year.

Summer Recreation Fund Seeks More Money

Coach Bill Lavelle reports 44 boys under 12 attended baseball practice Monday with several more possible. Older boys trained Tuesday and girls formed softball teams Wednesday as the Summer Recreation Fund struggles to raise about $600 for the season. Local donations listed include Polk Woman's Club five dollars and American Legion twenty five dollars. Polk Progress shows ten dollars.

Four Car Loads For Tornado Victims From Polk Community

The Polk community donated a mix of clothing bedding dishes and household items in response to the Disaster Call by the American Legion Auxiliary. Three cars and a station wagon filled to capacity were sent to the York Red Cross distribution center for Polk. Forty six dollars were given to the First National Bank Disaster Fund at York.

Cancer Fund Drive Totals 277 Locally

Mrs. Reuben Hanquist chaired the Polke area cancer drive reporting a total of 277.69 raised. Rural areas contributed 144.08 and business and house to house solicitation added 113.11. Rural chairmen Mrs. Irvin Anderson and Mrs. P. W. Aker are thanked along with numerous solicitors.
