Polk couple announces engagement of Lorraine Ruth Reckner to Richard C. Bauer of Longmont Colorado. Lorraine is a Rockmont College sophomore. Richard, a 1963 Longmont High School graduate and Rockmont senior, works at Stuart-Hitel Inc. in Longmont. Wedding planned for June 1968.

Farewell Coffee for Mrs Hadley by Local Club

The Pork Woman's Club and friends held a Friday afternoon farewell gathering for Mrs. C. M. Hadley at the home of Mrs. Paul Strand. Hostesses were Mrs. Strand and Mrs. Glen Brazda, and the entertainment included a game of Password.

Weather Continues Wet Spell After Memorial Week Rain

The region saw heavy rain over Memorial Day week with 3.70 inches recorded on Sunday night into Monday. Basements and attics flooded as the Prairie Creek rose for the first time in a year, fields ponds and new water bodies expanded forcing farmers to plan replanting milo and corn after two weeks of persistent wet, exceeding prior six months.

Donations Lag for Summer Recreation Fund Short of Last Year

The latest report shows $339.04 in the summer recreation fund, down $133.88 from the year-ago total. Small donations came from Oliver Adelson and two game collections on May 21 and June 4, while local games feature girls at Central City, older girls at York, boys at Waco, and small boys at Gresham.

Detasslers Sign-up Planned at Brazda's on June 14

A representative of the Columbus Division of Employment Office will be at Brazda Implement Co. in Polk on Wednesday June 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p m to register youths for detasseling work this summer. The event offers employment opportunities and helps estimate participation in each community.

Hordville High School Alumni Banquet Draws 171 Guests

About 171 alumni attended the Hordville High School banquet held in the high school gym with a centennial theme. Decorations featured red geraniums and era costumes while the program included a toastmistress, singing, a piano solo, and an educational history talk. Officers were elected, and future reunions were planned for next year and 1969.

WCTU Meeting At Mrs Aker Home

May gathering of the WCTU at Mrs Park er Aker's house opened with prayers led by Mrs Grant Willits. Mrs A E Swanson led the program featuring Mrs Falk of Stromsburg on child development and training. Five white ribbon recruits joined, music by Peggy and Jan Lindburg, a solo by Mrs Larry Killion, eight visitors attended, and on Sunday afternoon Mr and Mrs Willian Larson of Stromsburg visited Mrs Ella Shenk.
