Faithful Workers Mark 30th Anniversary Celebration

The Faithful Workers Club marked its 30th year at the home of Mrs. Ester Lackey with former members and club mothers in attendance. President Mrs. Cleo Cramer led the session as members recalled the club’s history and honored four charter members still active. Green and gold decor framed a program featuring Mother themed readings, two playlets, music by Lois Miller and Virginia Harding, and a cake display as the ladies enjoyed a formal tea.

High Prairie Alumni Banquet Celebrates 1927 Class

High Prairie School alumni held a Friday evening banquet on May 30 marking the silver 1927 class anniversary. Wesley Fredrickson presided as toastmaster with Gale Samuelson Om aha Mrs Orpha Fjell and Philip H Nyberg as speakers. A piano solo by Rena Mae Willits and a quartet performance accompanied the evening.

Pioneer Polk resident T J Nelson honored in community bouquet

Theodore Nelson known as T J ran a Polk shoe store for years and is praised for his reading hobby, flower care, church service, and long commitment to Polk and surrounding area. Born in Sweden at age 11 he has lived in Polk county over 70 years with six grandchildren in military service and a family history of pioneer hardship and resilience.

Midgets Fall Again as Central City Tops Polk 11 to 2

Polk Midgets lose 11 to 2 to Central City in a rematch. Bill McNaught and Butch Paben pitched for Polk which now joins a league with Aurora Central City Clarks Fullerton and Palmer, taking St Paul’s former spot. Aurora visits Polk this Sunday.

Honors convocation at the high school assembly on May 21 recognized students for achievements in dramatics music and athletics. Senior Pep Club girls received their P letters and merit certificates. Oilers and Johnson Triumph In Softball Shootout

Bud Bolton sparked a late rally as the Co op Oilers beat Legion 12 11. Clarence Rahrs Lowell Bills and Bud Bolton homered for the Oilers while Johnson's rolled to a 14 11 win with Dale Lindburg hitting the game’s solo circuit. Next week Legion faces Polk Bankers and Johnsons meets Co op Oilers.

Free Bible School Held At Baptist Church

The Bible School of the Baptist and Evan Free churches was conducted last week at the Baptist Church. Mrs. Elwood Anderson supervised with Rev. Elwood Anderson and others teaching daily lessons and presenting object lessons. A top enrollment of 66 attended, and $50 collected by children will aid Helen Nyberg in missionary work in Cody Kentucky.

Three young men from ePolk, John Holmes Doyle Hahn and Darryl Cramer, joined the United States Navy after passing their physical examinations in Lincoln on Monday. Latest word says all are being sent to San Diego California for training and assignment.

Sixteen Faithful Workers Club members plus nine others from the Home Society and other ladies toured Hastings by chartered bus on Monday. They visited the House of Yesterday Naval Ammunition Depot Ingleside State Hospital and the Mod-O-Day factory enjoying fine weather and a pleasant day.

Nebraskans In California Picnic Set In Los Angeles

Nebraska exiles plan a Polk Stroms burg and Osceola picnic at Roosevelt Park in Los Angeles on June 22, 1952. Attendees are advised to go to 1700 East Florence Ava and proceed four blocks south along the Pacific Electric Railroad tracks. Lunch and coffee will be served.

37th Alumni Banquet Attracts 230 Attendees

The 37th annual Alumni Banquet drew 230 alumni with spouses to the high school auditorium for an Election of 1952 themed evening. Decorations featured red white and blue with donkey and elephant images. Speakers, tributes to departed members, and class honors filled the program as new officers were elected for 1953.
