Class D State Track Meet Shows Polk High Marks

Randy Branting placed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump at the Class D state meet. Tom Carlstrom finished fifth in the shot put. Branting’s 42 feet 11 inches triple jump set a new Polk High School record.

Polk to launch 911 emergency number on June 1 1977

The 911 common emergency number will be placed in service on June 1 1977 in Polk. Residents on the Polk exchange can dial 911 for life threatening emergencies with the Polk County Sheriff Osceola answering and dispatching the appropriate agency. Routine nonemergency calls stay with existing numbers for Fire Rescue Police and Sheriff departments.

Alumni Banquet Attendance In Polk Area Weekend Visit Notes

Six Members of Polk High Class Attend Alumni Banquet

More than 300 alumni and guests gathered for the Polk High School Alumni Banquet held in the elementary school gym on Saturday night. The United Methodist Women of Polk provided the meal and Kevin Graves served as master of ceremonies. Officers for the past year were President Vicki Reckner Vice President Dick Mundt and Secretary-Treasurer Dee Rehrs.

Hopkins Family to Move as Reverend Hopkins Accepts New Charge

Rev. Robert Hopkins to take a Methodist Church charge at Bloomfield and Verdigre. He will preach his last Polk sermon on June 12 and move the next week. The Hopkins family has lived in Polk three years and served Marquette and Polk churches. Bloomfield, population 1500, shares a large church membership. Verdigre is about 5 miles away. Polk members regret leaving Polk but celebrate the promotion for Rev. Hopkins.
