Obituary of Theodore M Eckdahl from Polk Nebraska

Theodore Mauritz Eckdahl born March 31, 1913 on a Polk County Nebraska farm served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He completed 51 missions as a B-17 tail gunner before dying on July 19, 1944 after volunteering on a mission over Aachen Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster. He is survived by five brothers and two sisters and was buried in Belgium before reinterment in Polk Nebraska. Memorial services were held May 29 1949 at Brauer Funeral Home Polk with local relatives attending and comments on his life and faith.

Alumni Banquet Celebrates Fortieth Niners Theme at High School

About 190 alumni and spouses attended the 35th annual banquet at the high school auditorium. Themed Fort Forty Niners, decorations featured covered wagons and gold nuggets. Toasts and talks highlighted classes from 1929 to 1949, with musical numbers and a three course meal served by Baptist Church ladies. Out-of-town guests from Chicago, Lincoln, Hastings, Omaha and beyond joined the event.

Tri County Christian Endeavor Holds Osceola Mass Meeting

Youth groups from Merrick Polk York counties gather at Osceola high school auditorium on Sunday afternoon June 12 for an all area meeting. The event promotes band music community singing and a talk by Prof. Robert J. Strickland with delegations from Osceola Stromsburg York Central City and others.

Local families share picnic at Wurtz home

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Stromberg with sons and Mr and Mrs Neil McNaught and sons attended a picnic supper Tuesday evening at Mr and Mrs Leo Wurtz and son. Charles Dahlgren visitors in Fremont over weekend with Dean Momey family. Mrs Harry Henderson of Calendar California called on Sunday at Dahlgren home. Ramona Sundberg returned to Lincoln Monday after Decoration Day weekend with Raymond Sundberg family.

A county 4 H livestock event featured daily A class Guernsey and senior Holstein yearling heifers judged by a list of attendees led by County Extension Agent. A shipment of 4 H heifers from Richland Center Wisconsin is anticipated for the High Prairie 4 H Crops Club, including 11 Holsteins and four Guernseys. Polk County seed crop prospects for 1949 show Nebraska oats and Pawnee wheat leading the list.

Happy Homemakers 4-H Club Meets

The Happy Homemakers 4-H Club met Tuesday May 24 with Dianne and Delores Doremus. Eleven members attended and worked on dust cloths after the business meeting. They learned to pull threads to straighten edges and discussed finishing them. Outside they played steal sticks and enjoyed a lunch served by Mrs. Doremus. The next meeting will be at Creeches with Martha Creech and Barbara Carlson serving.

Shelby Farmer Injured as Tractor Overturns

Edwin Euse suffered serious internal injuries when his tractor overturned while crossing a ditch on the Euse farm two and three quarters miles southwest of Shelby. Hershel Reisdorf freed him, and he was transported to St Francis hospital in Osceola for operations Saturday and Tuesday.
