The library seeks volunteers to type catalogue cards for fiction books. Meet in the high school typing room on Tuesday August 2 at 3 00 p m via the north door. Irene Sundberg will assign tasks. Relatives and friends gathered to honor Rudolph Gustafson as he turned 80. Guests included Mr and Mrs Gustafson, Ollie Johnsons, Stanford Ang couple, Elwood and Wallace Sandell, and many descendants visiting from Omaha Lincoln York Goldsboro North Carolina.
The Polk County Republican Women's salad luncheon is set for August 1 at 12:30 at the Viking Center in Stromsburg. Guest speaker will be Dr. Vance Rogers, announced candidate for Nebraska Governor, and he will be accompanied by his wife Barbara. Rogers is Chancellor of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln and a former Wesleyan president.
Harry Dahlin located a 1911 Maple Grove School class photo via a card from Hazel Sedan Alton now in Grand Island. The rural school sat near Arnon Dover’s former farmstead. Faces identified include Myra and Ruth Glasser, Muriel Johnson, the Dahlia boys, Ira Glasser, Ralph and Roy Glasser, Leona Sedan Person, Forrest Sedan, and others. Hazel had worked at Polk telephone office and married Emmet Alton.
A Senior Citizens Bingo party is scheduled for August 3 at 2 00 p m in the Legion Hall. Residents are invited to attend for games, snacks, and social time in a community event hosted by local seniors groups.
Mr and Mrs Rodney Timmons of Hordville announce a daughter Colene Rose born July 16 with Ernest Timmons and Bill Wallace as grandfathers and grandmothers listed. Tyler William Wallace born June 20 weighing 7 lbs 15 oz with Norman Reetz and Herbert Wallace as grandparents and Martin Baack and Fred Reetz as great grandparents. Mr Virgil Sorensen and family visited Kennard, Dawn Sorensen stayed with grandparents, Mildred Norquest and Irene Mundt hosted Evelyn Shenk for Sunday supper.
The Ambassadors from Minneapolis will present a sacred concert at Trinity Lutheran Church. The program is Thursday July 28 at 8:00 p.m. The group represents the Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Minneapolis which offers a two year Bible program. The public is invited.
Sixteen Cub Scouts participated in a Crete Day Camp on Saturday with activities including Tandy Leather Macrame knot tying a B B gun range games an obstacle course and a nature walk. Each boy received a Day Camp patch at day's end. Mothers and den leaders assisted with transport and activities.
Mrs Harlan Johnson and sister Gertrude Morrisey of Central City rushed to Boise Idaho on Saturday after learning their brother John Riddlemoser was seriously ill. He died Saturday night and relatives Harlan Johnson Ron Heiden of Hampton and Ed Johnson of Minden left Sunday for Idaho to attend the funeral.
Mrs Ruth Kroger is a patient in a Sioux Falls hospital at 1100 So Euclid St. Room 1208. Mrs Martin Hoffman transferred from York hospital to Lincoln General in Lincoln on Saturday. Elmer Naslund entered Osceola hospital on Saturday. Grant Johnson entered Osceola hospital on Wednesday evening. Enoch Peterson dismissed from Osceola hospital on Saturday.
McKinley Land of Central City dies at 81 in Central City hospital. He was the father of Mrs Irvin Beckstrom. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Salt Mortuary.
Mr and Mrs Reuben Swanson and guests Mrs Beverly Flynn, David and Mark visited the Mervin Branting home in York on Saturday afternoon.
