Miss Colorado 1976 Crowned Karen Land in Sterling

Karen Jean Land 22 of Littleton won the Miss Colorado Scholarship Pageant in Sterling on July 3. She will compete in Miss America in Atlantic City in September. Land's background includes runner up finishes in 1974 and 1975 and she as Miss Northeastern Junior College in 1976 won a $1000 scholarship a Datsun and other prizes.

Open House for 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Gilbert Lampshire celebrate fifty years with an open house on Sunday August 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community Hall in Polk. Hosts are their children and spouses. Mr and Mrs Marvin McKenzie of Overland Park Kansas and Mr and Mrs Wayne Lampshire of New Orleans Iowa attend with five grandchildren. No gifts requested.

Hospital Notes From Regional Centers

Mr Ollie Johnson is a patient in Annie Jeffrey Hospital Osceola. Mr Robert Badek entered Veterans Hospital Grand Island on Friday. Mr and Mrs Carroll Flodman entered Lincoln General Hospital Lincoln Tuesday and returned home Thursday. Miss Michelle Hahn broke her right arm Saturday evening while playing with friends and entered York hospital Saturday night. Mrs Lyle Widga had major surgery Monday at Bryan Memorial Hospital Lincoln.

Senior Citizens play 10 point pitch on Tuesday July 27 at 2 p.m. at the Legion Hall. All players welcome for fun and prizes for high, second high and low scorers plus a door prize. The afternoon ends with coffee, cookies and conversation.

Seed Business Sold To Murdock Firm

Wilson seed business transfers to Lyle and David Stock in a father son deal. The Stocks move seed processing equipment inventory educational material and customer files to Stock Seed Farm in Murdock Nebraska. Lyle long a seed producer and David returns from three years in the Peace Corps to help expand the operation. Jim and Alice Wilson remain residents near Polk where Bob Brazda farms.

Mr and Mrs Gary Jones and Lisa and Lani of Clay Center visit Vern Jones home while Mr and Mrs Wilbur Jones of Central City attend. Larry Lukas and family attend funeral of her father Harry Pawloski in Farwell and stay the weekend.

Stark Nebraska Bicentennial reminiscences of Stark trading post

Stark Nebraska is remembered through a bicentennial project at the Johnson farm site on Highway 66. Lennart Johnson and Leroy Nelson placed a sign at Stark’s southeast corner with a model of Stark Trading Post and Post Office in Hardville’s parade.

Quilts old new or unusual will be displayed on the stage in the old 4-H building during the Polk County fair. Bring a quilted quilt to the display area Tuesday morning or afternoon July 27. Exhibits stay until Friday evening with an attendant present at all times. Quilts will not be judged but receive a participating ribbon.
