Maude Shenk 79 Dies After Short Illness
Mrs Maude Shenk 79 a Linderman Rest Home resident in Central City died Sunday evening in a Grand Island hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Salt Chapel in Central City with interment in Polk Cemetery.

Leonard Nelson 170 of Grand Island died Sunday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville with burial in Hordville Cemetery. He was a brother of Mrs Ellen Larson Martha Larson and Mr LeRoy Nelson of Hordville.

Fire Destroys Large Barn on James Lindburg Farm
Lightning struck the James Lindburg farm early Wednesday starting a blaze that consumed a large barn. Polk Volunteer Fire Dept. and Hordville volunteers battled the flames but could do little as the structure burned to the ground.

Fourth of July Banquet At Rolland Stromberg Farm
Rolland and Paul Stevens roasted two pigs for about 30 guests at a farm home celebration. Free pop and popcorn stands fed the children while barbecue, potato salad, beans and fireworks capped the evening. Debris was cleared as the pickup collected waste.
