Polking Around Polk Celebrates Bicentennial Fourth
A visiting community celebration in Polk featured exhibits, food, games, a quilt by Helen Samuels, a flag theft incident, and a large morning church service. Attendees recalled a cheerful, if imperfect, event with wide town involvement and casual levity.
Fourth Celebration Is Congenial Polk Bicentennial Fourth of July
The Polk Bicentennial Fourth of July started with an 11 am joint worship service in the high school auditorium led by Pastor John L. McCurdy with several area pastors and local musicians. Activities included a Kiddies Parade won by Kelly and Shad Adams, a pony wagon ride, a flag ceremony, Cub Scout carnival, puppet show, games, a dunking tank, a band concert, and patriotic songs by the Mother Singers. Almost 400 signed the register. prizes were awarded and proceeds from cake sales totaled funds for the Summer Recreation Fund.

Geneva Beckman Dies in Denver Death Notice
Mr and Mrs Leslie Adelson received word Monday night of the death of Geneva Beckman of Denver. She died at her home on Sunday, July 4. Burial will be Friday in Mount Vernon, Washington, the home of her sister Mildred Janson and husband J. W. Janson, 1319 Quentin Ave. Mount Vernon 98273.
