The Village Board met on Tuesday and voted to reduce water rates for July through September to help residents water trees and gardens. The new plan charges 50 cents per thousand gallons up to 3000, then 10 cents per thousand thereafter, with higher tiers for larger usage. Hydrants must be closed immediately in case of fire and cooperation from all users is requested.
The article urges farmers to clean up small weed patches to prevent spread and suggests using root-killing methods and chemical aids for large areas. A 16 page circular on fighting Leafy Spurge and Bindweed is available free and samples can be sent to Agricultural College for identification. Max Peterson, son of Dr. and Mrs. Peterson, begins work at Citizens State Bank.
A dense jumble of social notes lists visits and guests in Arborville and nearby towns. Families including Bedient, Stark, Cramer, and Scheapler are mentioned with gatherings at homes in Bradshaw, Aurora, Hampton, Unadilla, Lincoln, and Stromsburg. David City becomes the five and a half million dollar Federal Farm Loan headquarters under a group management agreement with Butler and Polk counties. The two associations keep a single group office at David City, with Osceola as an additional main office. W. J. Stead of David City elected Secretary-Treasurer, previously with Butler County. The plan, effective July 1, 1937, centralizes loan servicing, increases earnings, and builds reserves while maintaining separate associations. Directors list Butler County and Polk County officers and members. Local residents and visitors are noted.
Hordville residents Lloyd and Mrs Benson hosted business visitors in Lincoln on Thursday. Nearby families and individuals from Stromsburg Kearney Des Moines Wahoo and Rock Island gathered for picnics visits and vacations across Nebraska and Iowa. A youth sought subscription collectors for The Polk Progress offering easy work and commissions.
Local residents share weekend visits. Adolph Forss and family hosted Sunday at Frank Bolton home. Misses LaVerne Fredrickson Lavina Swanson and Esther Larson visited from Kearney. Florence Anderson of Omaha stayed with her mother Ellen Anderson. Wesley Fredrickson at UNL spent weekend with Axel and family. Swede Home Ladies Aid meets Thursday with hosts Mrs Abel Toline and Mrs Arthur Ekstrom. Professor Samuelson of Luther College Wahoo to speak at Swede Home Church Sunday. Marvin Fredrickson and Ansel Fredrickson enjoyed a Columbus picnic dinner.
Twenty one Polk county youths are among about two thousand attending summer school at the University of Nebraska. Two terms run June 8 to June 16 for the short session and June 8 to August 6 for the long term. Students from Polk Shelby Osceola Stromsburg join in the cross section of Nebraska life in teachers college arts and sciences agriculture and business administration through both sessions.
Arthur Newton and Harold Cramer were Old visitors Monday. Marlin Peterson from McCook came for a few days to visit his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Peterson. Arnold Crow and Edna Von Hansen enjoyed a fishing trip near Duncan Friday. Ole Larson and family of Omaha spent the weekend with his father Simon Larson. Walter Moore of Omaha spent the weekend with the Carroll Friedman home. Ednad Peterson of Osceola visited Henry Johnson Sunday. Herbert Anderson and family of Swede Home visited Mr. and Mrs. George Ander.

Local residents travel to Sioux City and Omaha. a bicycle accident injures Ralph Hultgren. birth of Ralph Hansen in Sioux City. several families spend the Fourth at Lake Ericson.
The report warns tuberculosis remains a major public health issue with millions affected nationwide and hospital beds scarce. It criticizes bureaucratic expansion in health service and opposes socialized medicine while urging better nurse staffing in New York City hospitals and stricter venereal disease marriage bans.

A string of motor accidents left several injured as Fourth of July travel spiked in the area. A Omaha party’s car left Highway 16 nine miles west of town, a passenger broke a leg and others were bruised, with the vehicle wrecked and the woman hospitalized in Stromsburg. A Butler county car and a Fillmore county car collided west of the fairgrounds, no injuries though both cars were badly damaged. Tom Dwyer of Silver Creek collided head on with a Scotia car near Stromsburg, Dwyer suffered a bad arm cut, his brother a broken leg and Kenneth Brown a broken leg. Scotia occupants were shaken but uninjured.
Weekend visits near Hordville and Benedict mark social gatherings. The best wheat yield reported is 22 bushels per acre on 19 acres by H. H. Hahn. Multiple families from Hampton Stromsburg and Arborville grouped for dinners and visits, with Sterling Nelson and family heading to Denver for a week.
