The Osceola Record plans to include the Polk county fair book with next week's edition and urges readers to follow removal directions. It thanks printing sponsors and defends youth culture while condemning riot incidents as excessive and says few students caused trouble.
The 34th Stromberg family picnic was at Buckley Park, Stromsburg, on June 20 with 109 attendees. A social afternoon followed by dinner featured many listed relatives from across Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and beyond.
Mrs Ruby Harrelson of Brooklyn New York was hosted by Paul Strand at his home from Tuesday to Thursday. A Wednesday coffee party honored her with attendees including Berniece Miller Margaret Jones Ruth Shenk Dorothy Stevens Velma Stephens Anna Kisler Carlyn Bruening Matthew Eleanor Stromsburg and Linda Peterson. An all host dinner followed with Alfretta Bedient Oscar Jones Jim Lindburg Leslie Adelson Gary Bruening and Matthew. A bowling party and luncheon at the Bit Of Sweden preceded her Thursday departure for Wymore.
Jeannine Faye Heckman and Timothy George Darnhauer wed at Calvary Lutheran Swede Home on June 27 with Rev. Larry Casper officiating. The bride wore a crystal peau de soie gown with lace mantilla and carried a three tier white carnation bouquet. reception for 200 followed at the church.
The WSCS of the Methodist Church met Thursday afternoon in the church parish hall with Mrs. Walter Nielsen Mrs. Gilbert Lampshire and Mrs. Harold Jensen presenting a program on patriotism titled Our New Nations. Hostesses were Mrs. Paul Coover Mrs. Forrest Anderson Mrs. Lloyd Stromberg and Mrs. Leslie Adelson. Vice president Mrs. Marvin Fredrickson presided at the business meeting in the absence of president Mrs. Nick McNaught.
Birth notices include Watts in Omaha at Clarkson Hospital weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces born June 26. Venegas girl Vickie Sue 8 pounds 13 ounces born June 9 in Lomita California. Heine Kevin Paul 8 pounds 2 ounces born July 3 in Waco. Peterson daughter Melinda Marie born July 5 weighing 6 pounds 5 ounces. Dewey Sigler cited for January March of Dimes leadership. total Polk County collection $2,710.80. William Richardson funeral set for Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Saturday July 10.
Sylvester Jacob Harless born May 25 1879 in Cass County Indiana moved as a child to Lancaster County and later Polk County. He served on the Polk school and cemetery boards and county commissioners and was a longtime rural mail carrier from Stromsburg. He died June 30 and funeral services were held July 4 at Polk Methodist Church with burial in Polk Cemetery.
