Mrs Leonard Orendorff received word June 28 of the death of her brother Roy Anderson of Chula Vista California. Survived by his wife Evelyn also of Chula Vista and brother Lloyd of Bard California.
Mrs Mae Felton slipped at the Methodist Church Sunday morning and fractured a hip. Surgery was performed on her hip Monday. Mrs Minnie Wright entered York hospital last Wednesday for treatment. She was transferred to Covenant Home in Stromsburg on Monday. Mr Orlie Miller returned home Friday after a week’s stay at St Francis hospital in Grand Island.
The Evangelical Free Church congregation held a morning worship service and a fellowship dinner on Sunday. A short program followed to honor Rev Willis Pauls birthday, with birthday cards presented by the congregation.
Mary Jo Widga was guest of honor at a Saturday bridal shower hosted at the home of Mrs Clarence Meerkatz. Hosts included Mrs Wm Ferrand Mrs Syd Widga and Mrs Clarence Meerkatz. The couple’s mothers and grandmothers attended. The wedding to Tom Falter is set for August 9 1975.
Mrs Curtis Hoffman Lori and Lisa and Mrs Willard Henderson were Lincoln visitors on Monday. Mrs Glenn Hill and Mrs Dwight Burney visited in Ruth Aker's home after church Sunday morning. Mrs Frank Jelinek and daughter Jennifer Warrick and grandson John of Rapid City, S.D. were Wednesday dinner guests in the Dwight Burney home. In the evening the Burneys entertained at supper Messrs. and Mmes. Wallace Sandell, E. M. Erickson and Glenn Hill.
In innocence we are born and after seventy we shed it all and with worries we die. Worries are no longer simple and perhaps never were, but we realize that every advance in civilization brings an advance in worries. We wonder if the first is worth the second.
Engagement announced for Wendy Sue Redman to Bruce Lee Hudson. Wendy is a 1975 Polk High School graduate and works for York News Times. Bruce, a 1974 Polk High School alum, farms with his father. The wedding is planned for October 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk.
Mr and Mrs Bill Nelson of Wa hoo announce the birth of a boy Arlan Shane on June 17 weighing 7 lbs. Mrs Robert Nelson is paternal grandmother. A son born to Mr and Mrs Douglas Stevens of Lincoln on June 22 weighing 5 lbs 7% oz named Daniel Robert with Mr and Mrs Robert Stevens of Lincoln as paternal grandparents and Alvin Dahlin as great grandfather. Mr and Mrs Ed Sweet of Clarks welcome a 9 lb 3 oz boy named Scott Alan born Friday June 27 at Fullerton hospital.
The Adelson Shostrom annual family picnic at Buckley Park drew forty relatives and one visitor. 1975 officers were Irene Widga, president, and Marlene Hanquist, Sec Treas. 1976 officers are Mrs Roy Nelson, president, and Mrs Lloyd Adelson, Sec Treas. One marriage noted: Russell Shostrom and Ann Elizabeth Bailey of Greeley Colorado on December 20, 1974.
Margaret Lott celebrated a Sunday morning call from her son Cecil Newton of Chicago who was home recovering well. He asked friends in Polk to know he appreciated their cards. Sunday visitors included Clem Meerkatz, Syd Widga, Frances Widga, Ronnie Helden and family, Oscar Johnson, and Willard Adélson.
A Summer Recreation fund drive promotes a 100 square raffle at ten dollars each with no weekly donations reported otherwise. Polk Grain Co adds 150 to the Community Hall Fund bringing total to 3436.50. The Swim Bus needs more funds beyond Coop Grain’s fifty. Marla Glasser’s 12 to 14 year old softball team finished second in the state district at York and advances to the North Platte state tournament to be held July 11 to 13 after beating Utica 9-8 and later 17-16 in a rematch. Polk and York eligible for the state meet. The Polk team stands 7-4 on the season.
Stromsburg and Swede Plain United Methodist Churches hosted a family fellowship dinner at Stromsburg Church on Sunday honoring Rev. Robert Holbrook for 25 years as an ordained minister.
The Gingham Gals 41 Club met June 4 at Rhonda Widga’s house for a business meeting and discussion of fair projects. Guest Shelli Ross of Carthage, Missouri contributes as part of a group of four H exchange students. Next meeting is July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Lynelle Meerkatz’s home.
Marilyn Rosno, a Kearney State College freshman, achieved a 4.0 GPA for the second semester and was named to the Dean's Honor Roll. A Polk High School graduate of 1974, she majors in pre medicine and is the daughter of Mrs Helen Rosno.
The Swede Plain Crusaders of the Swede Plain Methodist Church attended services at Buckley Park in Stromsburg on June 22 and later shared lunch at the Lester Widga home. Mr and Mrs Verland Widka acted as co hosts.
Pam Willits spent Thursday to Saturday at the Neal Van Housen home. Sunday dinner guests at the Dean Myers residence included Elder Bock and daughters from Pleasanton and Mrs Mary Bock of Ravenna. Additional visitors joined for afternoon and supper: Lynn Sundberg family, Ken Carlstrom family, and Dick Mundt family with Charles.
