Birthday gathering honors Ellen Stohl with gifts

Coffee guests at Clarence Redin2 home Thursday included Mae Sundberg Oscar Sundberg and Eddie Saylor. Walter and Mrs Stohl hosted a carry in dinner for Ellen Stohl turning 79 with guests Hilda Carlson Rayner Carlson Carl Holm Alfred Yungdahl Harold Martin and daughters Nancy and Mary. Self invited guests joined through lunch and gifts and cards were given to Mrs Stohl.

Cubs Take Second Spot in Conference Tourney

In a semifinal clash the Polk Cubs defeated the Clarks Bombers 41-37 to claim second place in the conference tournament. Loren Wilshusen scored the late decisive two points as Joel Stevens led the Cubs with early scoring. The Bombers had earlier beaten Polk 60-57 in an overtime game at Clarks, while Polk earned a 48-46 victory at Burg in a prior holiday matchup. The Cubs return to Stromsburg for a Saturday game, aiming to reset after a tightly contested finish.

Polk County Irrigators Meet to Elect Directors

The Polk County Irrigators Association will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday January 31 at 1 30 PM in Osceola City Hall. Dale Williamson of the Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Commission will discuss proposed water laws. Well measurements in Polk County will be presented and nine new directors elected. Coffee and rolls will be served.

ABC 4 II Club Demonstrates First Aid Techniques

At the January ABC 4 II Club meeting at the Lee Morris home, members plus helpers demonstrated tourniquets and arm slings, hand and chest bandages, a broken nose bandage, and an ankle bandage. Denny Ditloff explained pressure points and safe removal of live wire from injured persons. New member Gail Stone joined as lunch was served. Next meeting February 12 will be at the Ed Reckner home.

Women’s Club Meeting Sees 1967 Review And 1968 Hopes

The Pork Women’s Club met January 9 at Irma Adelson’s home with Emma Horstman and Mrs. Alfred leading. A trio performed So Send I You, and luncheon was served by Adelson and Eleanor Stromberg. The Home Society met January 17 with ten members. Myrtle Johnson led business, bingo entertained, Anna Kisler won the hostess gift, and a pot luck lunch followed.
