Extension forester B G Maxwell notes many Nebraskans dislike the Chinese elm due to windbreak breakage in icy winds. He urges using elm only for windbreaks and recommends hackberry thornless honey locust or hardy pines for lawns. Damaged limbs should be cut back to the trunk, with remaining growth filling in over years.

Free Show At Fredrickson Implement In Polk County
A free film event for farmers is planned for January 26 1942 at Polk County by Fredrickson Implement Company. The Land of Power Farming screens in color with views of Mount Rushmore hydro projects and Yellowstone and Glacier Parks, plus a veteran couple story and a short comic. A ten minute film on a soil conservation machine called the Prairie Mulder will also be shown, highlighting mechanized farming methods.

Branting Injured In Farmhouse Blaze
Mervin Branting was cut and burned fighting a fire that gutted the Lloyd Hahn farm home on Tuesday morning. Polk fire department saved the east side of the two story structure while the west side burned. A farm cistern aided the water supply after the department ran low. Mrs Branting and three young children were unharmed. Origin of the blaze unknown.
