The Junior Cubs won 17-9 in the preliminary and Polk later suffered a 36-25 loss to Benedict, with Volz and Flodman playing key third quarter roles. Cedar Bluffs defeat noted 23-16 with poor shooting and free throws.

Shelby Couple Celebrates Golden Wedding Anniversary
Shelby residents Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Brigham marked fifty years of marriage with an open house on January 18 at their Shelby home. The couple hosted friends and relatives from 2 to 5 PM and served dinner to immediate family and C. E. Casselberry, wedding attendant and Golden Wedding observer. They have two children Jean of Pittsburgh and Rex of Shelby, plus four grandchildren Doris Dorothy Thomas and Peggy.

Swedish born Fred Johnson remembered in Nebraska obituaries
Fred Johnson born in Sweden in 1870 came to the United States at 13 and settled in Hamilton County Nebraska. He lived near Polk since 1981 and left a wife Edith Marie Larson a son Rutherford and a daughter-in-law Mabel Blaine. Funeral services were held January 6 1948 at Stromsburg Hospital and January 8 1948 at Brauer Funeral Home with interment in Arborville cemetery. He leaves two sisters and two brothers among other relatives and friends. His obituary notes him as a good husband and father and hints at a reunion in heaven.

Central Nebraska Welfare Directors Meet in Osceola
The executive committee of the Central Nebraska County Welfare Directors Association met in Osceola on January 7 for a luncheon at Edith Heilman’s home. Attending were Mabel Pester Ernest Lindgren Gladys Rose Fern Anderson and Verna Johnson though Johnson could not attend. They discussed by law changes and aims to be presented to the full membership for Grand Island January 22 1948. The association covers 26 Central Nebraska counties plus five from the Southwest District.
