Oscar Strand Tops The Chicago Market

Oscar Strand of Polk led the Chicago cattle market with a shipment of fancy weighty steers selling at 11.25 on January 12, a quarter higher than other sales. The item notes regional social visits, local officers elected by the Polk Commercial Club, Farm Bureau activities, and community events including marriages, travel, and wartime service of local residents.

East Side Birthday Club Meets at Mrs Ray Werner Home

The East Side Birthday Club gathered Monday afternoon at Mrs. Ray Werner home for a birthday event with twelve members and one guest. Take Away Bingo was played with prizes won by Bertha Jones Esther Steel and Winifred Lackey. Lunch was served at the close.

Immanuel Ladies Aid Meets January 5

The Ladies Aid of Immanuel Lutheran Church met in the church parlors Wednesday afternoon January 5. Rev Hu spoke on The Anchor. A short installation service for new officers was held. President Mrs Arlan Warneke led the business meeting. Donations were decided for the Lutheran Hour and four fund drives. Lunch was served by Mrs Elmer Wilshusen and Mrs Gilbert Driewer.

Arborville Youth Hold New Year's Watch Party

The Arborville Congregational Church Youth Fellowship hosted a New Year’s Eve watch party in the hall with guests from Central City Friends Church. James Olson and Lois McConnell presented photos from a United Nations trip. Refreshments were served by sponsor Mrs. Harry Kennel and helpers. A candlelight consecration service followed at 11:45 p.m.

Swede Plain MYF Meets For Bible Study

The Swede Plain MYF gathered Sunday evening January 9 with all but one member and one visitor present. Members read excuses and discussed the lessons on Excuses of the Bible. Plans for the month and for the Stromsburg Youth Rally on January 16 were made. refreshments were served by Mrs. Reuben Ehn and Mrs. Bill LaVelle.

Funeral party travels for Hartwig Flodman service

Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson and Mrs Martin Jones went to Kearney last Friday morning to bring Jane Fredrickson home for the funeral services for Hartwig Flodman that afternoon. Jay Dee Green accompanied them to spend the weekend here. John A Andrews and Mona Coover of Cuba Kansas were Saturday visitors in the homes of Mr and Mrs Mervin Samuels and Mrs Lovette McCoy. Mrs Ernest Brockevelt was a coffee guest Wednesday afternoon. of Mr and Mrs Gilbert L Hampshire.
