Forrest Anderson 74 a Polk County farmer died Monday evening at his home of an apparent heart attack while feeding cattle. He lived in Polk County all his life and is survived by his wife Mil dred a son and two daughters, plus siblings and relatives. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 00 p m at Polk Methodist Church with Rev Robert Hopkins officiating. Burial possible in Stromsburg Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Walter J Nelson attended a capping service at Mid Plains Community College in North Platte on Sunday January 12 for their granddaughter Jeanette Nelson of Broken Bow. Jeanette is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Marvin Nelson of Broken Bow.
The American Legion Auxiliary met January 13 with eighteen members present. Lauretta Neuhaus led the business session. Senior citizens sent Christmas boxes and 35 attended January’s Senior Citizens Bingo. A program on Legislation and National Security was given by Jean Nielsen and Anita Green. Lunch was provided by Hilda Warnick and others. Evelyn Shenk reported.
Mrs Marie Anderson of Medford Oregon is staying as a house guest of Mrs Hannah Bodine this week.
A Friday blizzard dropped 6 to 8 inches of new snow creating wind formed drifts and halting all business social and school activity. By Monday morning normal life returned though vast snow piles on Main Street Boulevard linger as reminders of the storm.
The Methodist Church Social that was postponed will be held this Sunday evening January 19 at 7 00 p m. The event invites all members and friends to gather for fellowship and refreshments.
Polk Woman's Club leads 1975 drive to prevent birth defects and aid rehabilitation. Volunteers Lyla Meerkatz Marie Clymer DiAnne Johnson and Janelle Lindburg organized at Mrs Lindburg's home and prepared envelopes circulating in schools homes and town areas urging donations.
The LCW of the Trinity Lutheran Church met in the church basement on January 8 at 7 30 p m with 14 members present. Pastor Rowoldt led with prayer and introduced the program. Bonnie Wolfe presided and business notes were shared along with thank yous to Tabitha Home and Bethphage.
Mr D W Burney spent ten days in Clarkson hospital at Omaha for tests. Mrs Dick Sealey Sr entered Osceola hospital last Wednesday.
Polk Community Club schedules a pot luck dinner at 7 p.m. in the Community Hall on Monday January 20. After the meal members will elect officers for 1975. President Frank Ostrander urges all members to attend to show interest and sustain the club’s activities and planned Summer Recreation Program.
The Arborville Church announces Rev. John L. McCurdy of Grand Island has been called to fill the vacancy after Pastor Richard Bauer of Hordville resigned.
Blanche Sundberg and Edolf Erickson united in marriage at 4 o clock on Wednesday January 8 at the Evangelical Free Church parsonage in Central City. Rev John Elleson officiated with the couple’s son and daughter in attendance. A dinner at Hiway Cafe followed and the couple plan to reside in Polk.
Osceola couple Mr and Mrs Merton Flodman welcome daughter Carl Sue born January 13 at Osceola hospital. York couple Mr and Mrs John Nyberg welcome daughter Holly Jo born January 13 at York hospital. Randy Bankson and Don Bankson announce son Jeremy James born January 10 weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces. Don Wischmeier and family announce Holly born January 5 at York hospital weighing 8 pounds and 20 inches long.
Verdigre coach Dudley Baack led the team to a 58 38 victory on Tuesday January 7 at Verdigre. Social guests included Mr and Mrs Richard Gustafson and family visiting Central City for a celebration with Emil Steinke.
